Thinking of moving to the FJR

Re ES suspension: First, correcting a typo, the sentence should read "I bought an ES expecting to get approximately the same degree of suspension management as I experienced with a BMW RT (boxer motor). Maybe I'd get it if the front suspension could be changed as the back suspension is."...

    Longer side stand?

Well excuse me for asking what I took to be a simple "does anyone have advice about..." question. Clearly this is an offensive way to use this site. I knew there was a reason why I don't spend much time here.

    Longer side stand?

For the second time, I put the sidestand down, only to find the bike was tilted way further over than expected, making it very, very hard to right the bike. To say nothing of thinking "a little more tilt to the left and I'm going to be buying new tupperware bits". I have the (R&G??) footpad bit...

Thinking of moving to the FJR

Some comments about "all of the above": I bought an ES expecting to get approximately the same degree of suspension management as I experienced with a BMW RT (boxer motor). Maybe I'd get if the front suspension could be changed as the back suspension is. Hard frost heaves and similar "bangs"...

Mounting the Eclipse tank bag - with pix

Well... having just bought the Eclipse, and generally liking its design and features (mounting aside), better than that tossing it for another bag. :)

MotoBike Jack - pick your pig up off the ground!

OK, that doesn't work for every situation. NTL it does work for a lot of situations. That's better than nothing. Or carrying around one more piece of gear instead of whatever's needed to just enjoy the ride.

    Sena 20S

It is what it is. NTL there is that pesky volume level issue if you use a phone at the same time [you] listen to the GPS.

Mounting the Eclipse tank bag - with pix

I like my Eclipse bag but... the mount sux. If there's a way to mount it that doesn't leave straps where they can scrub the tank paint, the bottom doesn't scrub the tank paint, and I can get the bag out of the way, and back on, without invoking the assistance of Hell's lesser demons and saying...

    Sena 20S

Re: SMH10 - 20S - 20 EVO... Yes, the SMH10 and 20 S/EVO will talk to each other. The 20 S/EVO are almost the same animal with some device tweaks on the EVO. Loaded with the latest firmware, the S and EVO have the same features. I have all three on my bench. The SMH10 mount and 20S/EVO mounts...

    Sena 20S

Anticipate disappointment. It's not Garmin's or Sena's fault. The link between the Garmin and any BT headset uses the HFP (handsfree) protocol, which is meant only to pass voice and minimal control data. This is a mono sound link; music will have only one channel, period. The way to audio...

Maximum Size micro-SD card for Zumo 665

32 Gb works. IIRC 64 Gb failed, but only because the 665 won't address more than 32 Gb. But why bother? The 665 is a POS - I had to drag mine out of storage to verify the SD size. There are things I dislike about the TomTom Rider: Fixed 5 year limit on map support and traffic reporting...

MotoBike Jack - pick your pig up off the ground!

The K1200LT really is a lead weight (IMNSHO) but the demo is relevant - drop in at 7:03 unless you also own an LT. It does help to go over on the right side, to let the side stand catch the bike instead of going ...um... over the top. So embarrassing to do two drops back to back. FWIW, I...

MotoBike Jack - pick your pig up off the ground!

Jacks? Jacks? We don' need no steenkin' jacks! The audio isn't the best, but follow the visuals and the message gets through. (She wears shorts, nothin' to see here, move along, nothin' to see here)

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

More of a one picture walk... I found this rascal while wandering in Albuquerque's Old Town plaza area. It had a very mellow sound as it went by a while later. (Dunno about the bars, though - shorty cowhorn???)

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

King cake? Do I see king cake? OMG I am so jonesing for king cake. Ah yes, Lafayette, LA... well of course there's king cake. But no throws? King cake and no throws in sight? Oh my oh my oh my...

    X-creen windshield extender

Went there, did that, took it off. Watching the FJR windscreen flex under the load of the wind on the add-on deflector is not fun. Do they work, yes. If you want to bet the original screen doesn't begin to develop cracks somewhere.

    Power outlet in glovebox door

Meh, I pulled the drain plug and lead the wire through the hole. Everything is 100% reversible. Easy-peasy.

    Split: Off-tpic about deflectors

Not having seen an x-creen, I can't comment on that particular item. But I did install a deflector on the top of my windscreen. It worked as expected and would still be there except for one tiny detail... It flexes the windscreen like mad. Riding in clear air was merely "hmmm... don't know as I...
