No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

Did you buy one or more lottery tickets the same day? 'Cause you hit the jackpot big time. I try to be polite and cooperative when calling tech support lines. "Get more flies with honey than vinegar" and all that. Garmin support has generally been decent to work with, if clueless or unwilling...

No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

The 660 is only marginally harder to remove. Gotta find the little pushbutton thingie and then... bye bye. And no way to lock the mount, unlike the 550. Five years on and still getting updates. I'm liking this more and more. RTFM more and it may be time to go before the financial review board...

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

Gosh, I've never seen a department store with side cases. Must be a Maine thing, huh. [/ ducking and running ]

No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

I'd like a verification from a US owner, but it appears that at least the 550 has maps for the known universe, not just one corner of it. The 550 premium seems to be $200 over the non-premium 550. That leaves plenty of room to buy a car mount even at list price. Or maybe I just found a premium...

No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

Ah well, this thread is predicated on the notion that "Garman" and "best" is an oxymoron. (Gee, two high falutin' words in one sentence...)

No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

Hmmm... I get the intent, and I guess the idea works. I'm somewhat skeptical of changing carriers, albeit third tier "pay as you go" carriers (who piggyback on 1st/2nd tier systems). I know it can be done; I've moved from VZW to Bahama's BTC and back. BTC offers "pay as you go", which is what...

No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

Let me hear naught but good things for the 550 then. I found the OM (took a bit of pushing and prodding to get it on the TomTom site) and remain somewhat overwhelmed by the content. OTOH more (if informative) is good. Garmin is skimpy although, I guess, acceptable. What do map sets cost...

No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

BTDT on contacts. Used as a simple moving map while using Waze or Google Maps works without crashing. We're in the middle of a (four wheel) tour from Philadelphia to the Southwest. We've paused to come back east. Anyway, the odometer currently shows 4400 miles. All of this while using the 550...

No more Zumo 660, no more Garmin

I'm done with my Garmin 660. It's developed a way to crash hard. The screen goes black and the power button doesn't restart the 660. The only fix is to pull the battery. I'm tired of life with Garmin in general. I'm after the functional equivalent or better. I need US and European map support...

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

Stelvio. 48 turns completed. Parked on 9,045' high pass to enjoy Bruno's multi-lingual patter and incomparable made to order, complete with Louisiana Tabasco Sauce, wurst sandwich. The easy descent is joyous.

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

Stelvio. 19 turns behind, 29 turns ahead. The bike continues to run well. The rider begs to see turn 1 behind, and only Bruno's wurst stand ahead. It is a contest between will and fatigue, one not understood by those who have not completed Stelvio's 48 hairpins.

    PA 125 detour status

Agreed that chip and tar is evil. Still, it's better than the "not quite gravel, not quite sand" I found, mid-winter two years ago, in the (going north) first hard right "not quite hairpin" curve. I halfway expected to find that stuff earlier in the ride and was surprised I didn't. When I did...

    PA 125 detour status

I tried to find out whether the PA 125 detour is still in place. The PennDOT site suggests it's been removed. Does anyone know, for sure, what's there - or not?

OK, something to consider as an addition to my ear plug collection. :)

    New vs old

Having spent a week on at '17 K1600GT, riding in the Alps (if that doesn't wring a bike out, what does? See my YT t for the gory details ) The executive summary: one of my dumber ideas. While the 1600 was happy on the autobahns and happy on the small curvy roads, it wasn't very happy with the...

    Earplugs: just me?

Don't the yellow things cause problems? The red&yellow part looks more or less like standard foam, but the bit sticking out?

    Slippery seat problem.

Doesn't apply here - it's a Gixxer. Found that out as the page scrolled off the top of my screen... ;)

    Earplugs: just me?

FWIW, Ace carries 3M foam plugs in quantity- 80 plugs for $17.99 - YMMV DISCLAIMER: Got no skin in this game

    Slippery seat problem.

With an 03 WRX? Fascinating. But totally illogical
