    70's Bike show

I've driven at least half those machines, and remember almost all the other ones. Damn I'm getting old! :D SR-71

    8 pennies a gallon

Anyone old enough to remember gas station "attendants" that would (for free) check your tire pressure, wash your windshield, and check your oil - all while pumping your gas for you? Back then (60's and 70's), most service stations didn't sell milk, bread, smokes, and all the goodies, but they...

    no fuel

Todd - Just curious. What type of bike are you talking about? Flushing the fuel system (and replace fuel filter) is a must, but also take a close look inside the tank (flashlight). The dry portion of the tank will have a tendency to develop rust on the internal surface. Also examine the...

08 | GPS Speed vs Speedometer

Most every bike I've owned over the last 40 years (many) typically have read 2 to 5 mph on the low side My '05 and '07 FJR read 4 to 5 low. It's interesting to hear that some are seeing readings from their FJR on the high side. I'd be curious to know whether those that are seeing high readings...

    Lustrous Black

Congrats! Very nice. Where did you get your trailer? I'd like to pick one of those up one day soon. SR-71

Installing the Brake Away throttle lock

I'm in the process of installing the Brake Away throttle lock. Brake Away users..., according to the instructions I'm suppose to replace the stock bolt with the longer supplied one. The one that was supplied in my kit seems to be almost an inch too long - either that or I'm doing something...

    Now ain't this a b*tch!!!

Take a close look at those scrapes on the side bags. If the bike just fell over and was picked directly up, there probably wouldn't be long scrapes like that. My guess is either someone backed into it, knocked it over, then continued to push it a few inches. OR someone decided to sit on it...

i joined the ranks of fjr owners

That explains some of the dealerships ran across! :D SR-71

Installation of LED to saddle bags?

I have my Hyperlights mounted on either side of my license plate (with the Hyperlight bracket). At this location they seem to light up the back of the bike pretty nicely, especially at night. But you're right - proper angling is necessary. I'm not sure separating the two Hyperlight assemblies...

    Gas Tank

I'm not sure about all the FJR model years, but I know there's a difference between the Gen1 and Gen2 tanks. One thing for sure is the Gen2 tanks have a plastic rap-around piece along the bottom of the tank (perhaps for heat control). Different tank part numbers can also account for various...

    Opinions sought on handlebar risers

I added Helibar risers to my '05 which raised the bars 1" and back about 1/2", and it really helped. After adjusting the bars on my '07 I decided I didn't need to add raisers, but I can definitely vouch for Helibar products. They make top quality stuff. SR-71

With great regret I am hanging up my boots

I can relate to what you're going through. I'm at about the same age and have been riding for 40+ years. Due to the high density of traffic in my area, many times my riding experiences aren't that fun - and they seem to be more of an exercise of 'how do I stay alive in amongst all the terrible...

Man soars above Alps with jet-powered wing

There was something similar done a few years back, but the guy used some type of webbing from his arms to his side to create a bat-like wing (with rocket on his back). If I remember correctly he was first dropped out of an airplane, then went into a powered glide through the mountains. Who...

    Looking at a used 04

I was going to comment about the Gen1 heat issue too, but I see your from Canada, eh? My Gen1 really got hot when temps exceeded 82-85F or so. You're probably going to be just fine with the '04 up there. Oh, make sure it's not one of the ticker's. Yam has been known to fix the problem (even...

    Finally Took Delivery of '08

Thanks SR71. When I attempted this I had both hands on the handle bars, I did not use the passenger grab bar which makes it much easier. My insurance is not contingent on the certificate, however we are changing all of our insurance over to a new agent who suggested that if we can wait for the...

    Finally Took Delivery of '08

Congrats on the new FJR! That's interesting your insurance is contingent upon your training certificate. What insurance company are you using? Most insurance companies just provide some discount for that training and can reimburse you, even if you already have the policy in effect. In any...

    Damn those little stingers!

I wasn't aware those varmits could sting more than once (as if that's not enough). Years ago, while biking down a back road on a enduro I had a bumble bee fly into my helmet, wedging itself between the side of my head and my helmet. I started fighting (while still underway) to get my helmet...
