What Generation are 2016 and 2017 FJRs?

I like the idea/concept of a 3.5 Gen. and all in all it's probably the most accurate, but if one starts going down the road that why not a 3.75 the next time Yamaha tweaks something(s) minor but keeps the rest the same? Gets too muddled. If there are enough changes to move it from one...

PNW Spring Tech Meet #18 - May 13th

Thanks, but no, not Helibars...just the (purportedly easier) GenMar block 1" risers. I've watched the YouTube video, and it looks like it takes two tools and three hands, and I have neither tools and only two hands. ;-) It does look fairly straight-forward, though, so I think even the very...

PNW Spring Tech Meet #18 - May 13th

I decided last night to bow out because the weather forecast assured me it would be raining cats and dogs all day, all weekend...and so what do I wake up to? Blue skies and sun. Sure, maybe a light sprinkle or two, but mostly blue skies and sun. Looks like now I have to ride for a good while...

Congratulations...glad to hear such a beautiful bike is going to an appreciative (full-price-paying) home.

PNW Spring Tech Meet #18 - May 13th

Gen III started in '13, and the item indicates up to '15, so, yes, Gen III is covered. Plus, as far as I'm aware there was no design difference between '15 and '16 that would impact the handlebars. As well, I bought it from their Amazon page, and the first question on the Q & A area is...

PNW Spring Tech Meet #18 - May 13th

Hope to make it with the new/leftover '16A that I just picked up a few weeks ago. Would like to meet the other FJR folks in the area and see what others have done to their bikes, to get some ideas (though I tend to keep my bikes mostly stock) -- and, as well, I have a set of GenMar 1" block...

2-year member finally adds a new 2016 FJR to his garage...

For those who may be considering the same seat but haven't yet pulled the trigger on one, I thought I'd post a couple pics and give my initial and short-term riding impressions. Since it continues to pour in the Seattle area, the latter will have to wait a few days. Before: After...

    Happy, Happy, Happy - New 2016 FJR1300ES

Wow -- glad you weren't hurt worse than you were...that's a scary pic. Congrats on the new bike...as a '16 owner myself, that blue's a beauty.

Picking up a 2016es on Friday.

I picked my leftover '16 a couple weeks ago, and those were the two things that I knew I had to correct asap as well. Like your touring box, I had them throw in a Yamaha Touring windshield in to make the negotiated numbers work a bit better, and my Sargent seat is due to arrive on Monday. I...

Just ordered the Sargent seat...couldn't reconcile the price difference. If for some reason the Sargent isn't what I need it to be, then next year I'll look at doing something custom with Laam or Rich's with the stock seats I'll soon have sitting on a shelf.

2-year member finally adds a new 2016 FJR to his garage...

I'll give you my short-term comments. I don't have any serious saddle time on the pre-'16 5-gear models, other than a couple quick test rides on a '15, to compare, so it's difficult to qualify my comments, especially with just (thus far) 350'ish miles on the odometer. But that said and...

Funny you should mention Rich's. After discounting every other manufacturer of seats for the FJR -- Top Sellerie, Laam, Corbin, Yamaha Comfort, etc. -- I had decided firmly on a Sargent's. But in the last few days, I've been giving Rich's more thought. I've seen his stand at the Int'l...

2-year member finally adds a new 2016 FJR to his garage...

As mentioned in my OP, it was that beautiful '14 red that really caught my eye and made me look more into the FJR. I suppose I would have anyhow, given that I was becoming interested in the sport tourer segment as the cruiser alternative, but the visual impact that '14 had made the FJR the...

Yes, seems like a good group down there. Interestingly, I had bought my previous bike -- the aforementioned Triumph Thunderbird 1600 -- at their sister store, I-90 Motorsports, and had it serviced there. So I guess I've been contributing to their bottom line now for six years and counting...

2-year member finally adds a new 2016 FJR to his garage...

Yep, that was me. Thanks for the reminder r.e. Tech Day...if I can wait until then to get my risers on, that would be a great opportunity. Even if I can't wait, I hope to get down there anyhow, as I'd love to see what everyone's done to their bike and maybe get some ideas. I tend to like to...

At the risk of redundancy, since I also just posted this at the Other Forum, I wanted to post this here as well since everything holds true here as well (2-yr. forum membership) and, I know there's a large contingent of Puget Sound folks here, and, in fact, several were generous enough to let...

2008 FJR vs 2015 Triumph Trophy SE

I can't add much to the above -- too big, styling a bit blah, etc. I've been looking, comparing, researching the different sports tourers out there for a couple years -- with the FJR as my default -- and the Trophy was probably the quickest crossed off my list...and I'm a huge Triumph fan (own...

    Bar adjustment

This is the exact setup (closest + 1" risers) I plan to do with mine this Spring...if it doesn't work as well as I hope, then I'll look at other, more complex setup (riser plates, etc.). Question: Assuming you're roughly my size (6'1", 34" inseam), does this setup (closest + 1" risers) put you...

    First Bike?

Honda SL70 when I was about 11 or 12. This would have been back in the mid-late '70s.
