    post trip feedback...

14 days, 20 states plus Canada, 8000 miles later, I can honestly say that I was not at all dissapointed by my 'budget' gear: #1 Airhawk seat pad saved my ass!!! I was a sceptic at first, but now I can't imagine even a top of the line custom saddle providing the comfort this thing did. One leg...

    Accessory advice?

3 days to go..... Thanks for the tips, this is what I ended up with: Olympia gear seems pretty solid. I've done about 50 miles in rain now and been perfectly dry. I havn't bothered with the liners yet cause this stuff is warm even without. Garmin 750 is a great little unit, especialy like the...

    Accessory advice?

So, bike back on the road today after a week in the garage. This was realy the first time I've had her apart since I got her back in May, knocked out a good list of basic stuff: -pulled the rats nest of wires from previous owner (remenants of stuff that was pulled from bike before...

    Accessory advice?

Thanks for the info Scotty, I'll let the jack slide this time:) I went with the 32" pants too, just a little concerned they might not be big enough if I wanted to throw them on over something else since I wear a 32" jean.... Dave, do you know what Spencer is calling a ld foam? is it just a...

    Accessory advice?

Gear issue is resolved, I went for the Olympia ast/ranger combo, hope the fit is better than the last helmet I bought online..... I'm indecisive about a gps, apparently the 2700/2800 series has been discontinued, (but still available in places). They say it has been 'replaced' with the 750...

    Accessory advice?

Thanks for all the great advice: I might be leaning towards the Firstgear Killimangaro/kahtmandu combo, read too many reviews about the Olympia not being as waterproof as advertised? Thanks FJRBluesman for bringing up a very important point, I wanted to say something, but .....I'm having a...

    Accessory advice?

I'm doing a coast to coast trip (Maine to Washington) in about 3 weeks and was looking for any advice....... My limited budget has a new set of PR2s waiting to be shod, Hella lights, Cee Baily +2, and hand guards.... I am ready to pull the trigger on an Olympia AST jacket/pants. Anyone got...

Replacing my hour long stock seat

So, while we are on the topic of UPGRADING stock seats... Although the Russel has a great reputation, obviously it might not be for everyone. Personally I shudder at the thought of spending that kind of dime on a seat. (Heck, I've spent hours on an oak bar stool and never felt a thing.........)...

The Secret SV-650/1000 Suzuki Owners Society

So, now that I found "The" bike, the SV's gotta go. If anyones interested it's an 08 650n with 300 (no typo) miles on it. I bought it at an insurance auction last year with a very mildly tweaked front end and did the full GSXR conversion over the winter complete with carbon fender, galfer lines...

    not another aux tank thread!

Raining sideways up here in Me today so it looks like we were up to the same thing BwanaDiK! I should have said polyester resin will eat "some" types of foam. I know it will with blueboard or cooler foam, (which I thought you are using but now I see it is more of a craft? foam. I started mine...

    not another aux tank thread!

Back to the 'bladder' idea: Dug out May issue of Cycle World and re-read the piece on Gary Egans Duc with the custom Fuel Safe bladders in saddle bags. Probably an expensive rout, but think about a trunk that would instead of being perched way up high on the tail, it could utilize the whole area...

    not another aux tank thread!

Bwana: Not far from my original idea although I would shoot for the 4+ gallon size. Yes, resin will disolve styro. Carefully applied shrink wrap or a wax combo of partall paste and pva would probably work, (a denser form of foam like blue board is better for this). I am NOT a sheetmetel guy but...

    not another aux tank thread!

hmmm, I feel the need for some 'concept sketches'....not one of my strong points

    not another aux tank thread!

My initial thought would be to mold a piece very similar in shape to the rear seat but with a flat top, open front (would allow some ''cramable with front seat off' storage) and possibly attatched foward on either side where the side fairings are bolted to the frame. Rear? hard to do much more...

    not another aux tank thread!

First of all, on a forum like this I believe there is no such thing as thread 'hijacking', we are here to throw ideas around and try to learn from others experiences, so the more ideas the better ;) Joe, you have invested so much into this topic so I value your ideas highly. Oh, and btw, as...

    not another aux tank thread!

I brew my own, what can I say? :drinks: So you are saying a 'shelf' that would fill the voids on either side and create a platform that your tank would be bolted to, or through?

    not another aux tank thread!

 (note:change topic to "extry tank thread") Joe2lmaker: Was'nt pickin on yer wurk (now I'm doing it!), 'milk crate' was refering to the plastic tanks that (as you know) are functional, ecomomical, fugly, and........ tempting.....btw, thanks for sharing your tank story, lots...

    not another aux tank thread!

Been researching alot about all the great ideas people are putting into auxiliary tanks and still have yet to see anything done in fiberglass. So heres my concept: something much like the Corbin smuggler, molded as low and foward as possible to centralize mass, enough flat top to attatch some...

    cruise options

OK, not in the budget to install 'real' cruise, so, any suggestions for some kind of lock that would work with OEM(style?) heated grips?
