    Dash piece gone missing

Sorry for the long delayed answer, but in July my site credentials didn't seem to work and time flies when you're out riding. Anyway, the answer is I don't know, but apparently the inside of the hood came detached and was lost somewhere onto the road. I still haven't gotten around to ordering...

    Dash piece gone missing

Crap. The above is the best copy and paste I could do. Question is whether I really have to pay $110 for the whole piece when just part of it is missing. Anyone here had this happen? Thanks.

Is it just me? Gen 3 easier to center stand?

The replies in posts # 2, 3 & 11 are correct, possibly others; I did not read all. I noticed the improvement right away after buying my '14. The entire bike, it would seem, was massaged front to back resulting in a far better motorcycle. I've often been disappointed when going to view/buy a new...

Hit the kill switch when stuck in traffic

Once a couple of cars stopped behind me, assuming an area where there's a bit of traffic, I'd shut the key off. It's hard to prescribe any one-size-fits-all situation or conclusion, but there's not much good to be gained from long periods of idling. The new kill switch makes it easy. Perhaps...

Hit the kill switch when stuck in traffic

Here is a site that discusses oil temperatures and oil/engine longevity: https://www.elephantracing.com/techtopic/oiltemperature.htm Neither leaving it run nor shutting it off is a slam dunk, which is why I will continue to shut it down selectively. Only CA has lane-spliiting, so for the vast...

Hit the kill switch when stuck in traffic

I got tired of trying the search feature, so I'll just ask: When you're in traffic and see that you'll have to idle the engine for long periods, do you hit the kill switch and restart when you can go? I've been doing this for a while now, but I'm wondering if there is a downside to the practice...

Deer killed my '05, replaced with 2014 ES, I'm impressed !

I looked twice more and you are right..I'll end up with an extra pair, andI won't have to reorder when I buy a certain planned bike.

Deer killed my '05, replaced with 2014 ES, I'm impressed !

Well, I ordered the ones from Moto-D. You have to pay for each (two), shipping is free, but they look like they're better formed. At Curvey ****, you get two for your $30, and free shipping. I think I had the ones from Bike Effects on my last bike and they were fine for the life of the bike...

Deer killed my '05, replaced with 2014 ES, I'm impressed !

ShawnKing, I'm looking for some for myself, and these are a few I've found. I think we need 11.3 mm size for our bikes. https://www.amazon.com/MOTO-D-Angled-Motorcycle-Valve-11-3mm/dp/B00L4G67TC Same as above, but cheaper: https://www.motodracing.com/angled-valve-stems This one is priced...

Deer killed my '05, replaced with 2014 ES, I'm impressed !

Just buy a pair on-line and have the tech install them when your bike's tires are next changed. There are only two sizes as I recall; one for Euro bikes and one for most Japanese. Maybe someone will post a link to their favorite ones.

I like you list of improvements. The bike I replaced with a '14 ES was an '06 Gen II. I can't speak for your '05, but there's even more I find improved. Number 1 for me has to be the seat foam. It's pretty much ok as it is. The windshield is better in all positions for me (shorter than you) but...

    2014ES Service Manual Up-To-Date?

I'm waiting for validation of this reply. It'd make me real happy if the manual is complete since while I really liked my 2006 FJR, this new one is better in every way. It runs better, especially passing about 2500 rpm, the windshield is both better and smaller, the seat foam is almost good...

    2014ES Service Manual Up-To-Date?

Oh, crap. That's exactly the question I wanted answered in the FSM. On my previous FJR I removed the forks, supplied the parts and had a friend with an independent shop do the actual rebuild. Yes, I like doing some of the work myself and saving some money, but the problem that I cannot solve is...

Why do you think my FJR's transmission failed?

I'm going to read that, thanks. ionbeam: That's good to know. Thanks. Bounce: Ummm... gee... um... I think my windshield has run out of sticker space. LOL

Why do you think my FJR's transmission failed?

Yes, humans can and do make mistakes. That is why designers test and retest components to the point of abuse to make sure when the product is released for sale it will perform without failure for as long as possible. In my case, the transmission did not last as long as the engine, by about half...
