Rain any day: I hate broiling. High heat fatigues me much faster and the risk of dehydration is obviously much higher. Edited to add that after a day of riding in high heat, even a 75 or 80 degree night feels arctic and in the past I've actually worn full electrics in similar situations. - Tim

While I understand your points intellectually, I don't understand them at all on an emotional/competitive level. I don't remember much of any of the places I've been on the IBRs and other rallies I've been in. That's not why I run in these events. My intent has always been to challenge myself...

+1 on the Neosporin. I had this issue starting on Day 2 of the 2003 IBR with a set of molded headset plugs and I used Neosporin for the remainder of the rally with no problems. - Tim

^^^This Agree 100% about the easier miles, at least before the major rains set in. Unless someone got the Maine corner prior to the 1st checkpoint, I don't see how Meese and Peek are caught. I assume they can make up State Capitol bonus points on the 2nd and 3rd legs to offset whatever points...

I'm thinking the rider or riders who seem to have gotten the 2nd of the 4 corners in Maine may also be in good shape. To whit, they will be able to blow off most of the east coast state capitols (since most aren't far off the route and are presumably worth few points), pick up a few higher value...
