Difficulty starting with a warm engine

Quick follow-up on my post…. A few weeks ago, I was out early on a Saturday morning and came upon some construction w/flag man. Thought it would be quick but ended up letting bike idle for about 5+ min… (cool temps, fan didn’t even come on). Turned off engine and sat for another 5 and upon...

Difficulty starting with a warm engine

My '05 did that exact same thing and a new battery would fix it for a year or two. But ultimately, I installed a new starter, battery AND relay (just to be sure). Old starter was still in excellent shape and simply needed a cleaning (brushes a little oily/dirty) but I replaced it with a...

Tall Rider & Wind Buffeting? - 2nd Gen

Here are some pictures as requested above.... btw, my helmet is an Arai Signet full face... ;-) The MRA unit is nice but was I'm sure $100+ if I recall.. (it has been years since purchase). The second picture is the Amazon cheapo clamp-on unit that I put on my Super Tenere (less than $30)...

Tall Rider & Wind Buffeting? - 2nd Gen

At 6’-10” I may be THE tallest FJR rider on the entire planet… 😉LOL! Cars, airplanes, riding gear can be a challenge… and that includes motorcycles. My ’05 FJR has the N20301 Vstream (20.5” tall) plus an MRA spoiler/deflector thing at the top. This works well for me and I’m looking just over the...

    Final drive tools

Mr_Canoehead, Valid points for sure... fortunately, my '05 is non ABS so no issue there. I've run the 190/55 for years and yes, on the centerstand, the rear tire is now barely off the ground AND, I also have a Penske rear shock which is just a tiny bit longer than stock. Btw, on my '05, I did...

    Final drive tools

Kelvin, what FD did you get from Ebay? The Venture (RSV) Final Drive (FD) unit will not fit on your FJR (they do look similar). What you need is the RSV GEAR-SET and those must be installed in your FJR FD case. And this is the Service that had been offered by the guy who passed last year (John...

    Fueling Issue Poll

Wouldn't hurt to pull the fuel pump, check the filter. Replacement filters can be found on Ebay, AliExpress etc. Here's how I checked the fuel pressure on my '05: Ebay used fuel line + common T-fitting + crappy old pressure guage I had laying around. Regards, Mr. BR

    Final drive tools

I did this mod 10 yrs ago and I absolutely love it and I had it done by the guy who has since passed. I simply did not like the gearing on my '05... always looking for another gear. Just my personal preference to have the engine spinning a little slower and the GEN1 bikes have the shortest...

Screen extensions - any good on stock screen?

My '05 has an MRA on a tall V-stream shield and it works great... but as stated above, find what works for you even with a stock shield. I'm EXTRA tall so I wanted and needed that extra height (I still look just over the top of the MRA). I've also got a tall shield on my Super Tenere but with a...

    2004 FJR1300 fuel filter...?

Yes, that is the factory filter that's built in to the in-tank pump unit (sit in very bottom of pump unit). And by the way, that rubber fuel hose from pump to the throttle bodies is actually a hard plastic fuel line on the inside. Mr. BR

    2004 FJR1300 fuel filter...?

Hey RossKean, I got the filters on that aliexpress site (china)... you can find them on ebay as well. I bought two as my '12 Super Tenere uses the same filter. My '05 was running just fine but with 85K miles, I just wanted to change it for no other reason. I did open the old filter and it was...

    2004 FJR1300 fuel filter...?

As stated above, the filter is part of the pump unit and it can be replaced... .I just did it on my '05. Mr. BR

Final Drive Oil Change, Do This

I believe the actual u-joint is considered a non-service item… it has no grease/zerk fitting like you might find on a car or truck. As noted by others, clean and grease those splines occasionally and you’ll be fine! About 2 yrs ago I bought this rusty Gen1 U-joint on Flea-Bay for $15 just to...

    Won't start in gear

As mentioned above, you can take the switch apart.... I just did this today on my '05 for no particular reason except that I hadn't had it apart in my 10 yrs of owning the bike. The switch on my '12 Super Tenere is the same. It's a simple unit to take apart, clean and reassemble. I lightly...

    03 Won't Start

TBD on pulling the ECU connector for now but I may pull the ignition switch while I'm in there... I don't recall which exact wire it but it was on the female connector side and was one of the outer-most wires on the narrow side of the plastic housing. All pins looked pretty good overall as I...

    03 Won't Start

Good suggestion. I had cleaned mine years ago but I'm back in there just to check a few things as my '05 is very randomly doing the same thing as the OP. For me, cold start or warm, it will crank normal but doesn't fire immediately as normal. Key off/on, normal fuel pump cycle etc.... and it...

    Waterpump noise?

Find any obvious issues with old pump? Bad bearing, loose shaft... ? It's nice that the pump is easy to replace... I've got a GEN3 unit on my '05 ;-). Mr. BR

    Universal joint service

That's what I did.. found a rusty FJR u-joint on ebay for $20 just so I could take it apart. You'll see the results of that with pictures in the link above that rbentnail posted. These are stout little units that rarely EVER fail... just check and grease the splines once in a while. Mr. BR

    Won't Start....In Gear That Is

I see the screw on my non-ABS '05... it sits flush the switch body and may be covered with dirt etc... Mr. BR
