    First Track Day at Mid-Ohio

Yeah, I will say that everyone was very cool.  No one was trying to intimidate anyone and there was only a little bit of hot dogging - which was actually fun to watch. I haven't completely written off a future track day, but it won't be a regular thing.  I am completely satisfied that I learned...

    First Track Day at Mid-Ohio

I forgot in my OP... My bike had a large, aftermarket windscreen that I use daily since I'm kinda tall.  I re-installed the original for track day.  The tall one was too shaky/flappy over 110mph, and somewhat intrusive to my space if I wanted to tuck. I'll be putting it back on now. -J

    First Track Day at Mid-Ohio

Thanks. I was the only one without either a track bike or something very "sporty".  The least-sporty bike on track was an FZ-09, I think.  Then me, of course.  I was also carrying too much fuel.  I had no problem hanging in or even gaining on the straights, but those are a small fraction of the...

    First Track Day at Mid-Ohio

First off, this was a great event! Very well-organized.  Pretty much 100% uptime.  Great coaches.  The track was in tip-top condition.  And a great group that I rode with.  Sunny and 80F. 2nd-ly, I don't feel that I need to go again.  My goal was to see how I would do with my bike (used for...

    Get Ready for the Cicadas

aka "Locusts" If you've been riding for less than 17 years then you probably don't know what it's like to get hit by a cicada at 70mph. They are large, noisy, hard-hitting flying insects. They are harmless - you can catch them in your hand - as long as you're not going 70mph. At that speed...

Big Trunk, Little Trunk, Rack, Bags?

Mine has a similar support as this: (https://www.fjr1300.info/mods/givi.html) If it breaks, it will be as I cross the train tracks on my way into work. It seems like if they made the top case to fit a little lower it wouldn't see so much stress on the mountings. That adapter plate looks...

Big Trunk, Little Trunk, Rack, Bags?

This type of thing has some promise. I think some of the weight would be shared by the side cases as well. They seem to be referred to as "tail bags" Anyone try one on their FJR? -F (I credit this discovery to those creepy marketing gurus who are monitoring my internet searches and...

Big Trunk, Little Trunk, Rack, Bags?

Now we're getting a few ideas. I have the trunk usually for running my daughter around town for school or sports. Books and backpacks and extra clothes fit in the trunk, but we've had her softball gear bag wedged where she could hold onto it and partially sit on it, but it wasn't really solid...

Big Trunk, Little Trunk, Rack, Bags?

Thanks. This I have seen, and I like it, but I would like to maintain the passenger spot. GO JACKETS! THWG! Before I asked my question I was already thinking I am going to have to improvise something. Maybe a rack of some sort to carry a common dry bag. Maybe someone has done something...

Big Trunk, Little Trunk, Rack, Bags?

I currently have a BIG Givi trunk (55 liter?). I am spoiled to have that much cargo space, so now I don't want to be without it. I have a couple questions, though: 1. Why are all the trunks so high/tall? I realize they should be "helmet size" (mine holds 2), but are there any that are...

Thinking About Running The FJR on Local Road Course

Did you make any suspension adjustments, or did you just use your everyday settings? Tire pressure? It sounds like a great experience. Thanks, -J

    Grips please?

Just posting FYI... ^^^This would be my set-up IF the previous owner of my FJR had not insulated the left handlebar and made it 1" diameter under the heater. My solution was to install these (BikeMaster): (I had to remove the sleeve that adapts one of the pair to 7/8" dia. bar) ...then...

    I thought the ST1100 plastic was a bi$#h ...

Thanks for that! I will flip through there when I have some time. J

What is the best year to buy?

Did you ever get a bike? I had test ridden an '07 AE, '08 A, and '09 A. The throttle issue was not an issue for me since I came off a jetted FZR600 (talk about abrupt throttle response). I ended up a little over budget on an '09 as it was the cleanest, had <15K, and had several extras that...

    I thought the ST1100 plastic was a bi$#h ...

Late to the party, but no point in starting another thread. My recently-purchased '09 had a slightly bent right hand mirror bracket. "Oh, I will just take this side plastic piece off after dinner, straighten it with a crescent wrench, and pop it back on." And so it began... I got about 1/2...

    Interesting sales encounter

This thread is all over the map... much like my experience. I figured getting a test ride on a used bike would be easy. At one shop near Toledo, they let me ride an '07 AE and an '08 A. One had the suspension set "racy", the other "cruiser", so the test rides were very educational. I knew I...

I Just Noticed Something on the Forum

There seems to be subtle jabbing at the BMWs. Therefore, I must add a short story: Friday, I met my family after work for a dinner out. It was a nice day so we sat outside, both to enjoy the weather and keep an eye on my FJR. There was a BMW (R1200RT? - is that such a thing? I may not be...

New FJR Owner: What happens when you lowside/washout?

Thanks all. I have been considering frame sliders. I went to the parking lot during the test ride. I was impressed at how snappy the bike was. Not like my old FZR, but still surprisingly maneuverable. I also took it to a gravel parking lot and locked the front wheel at low speed a couple...

New FJR Owner: What happens when you lowside/washout?

I didn't figure this would get the attention I'd like on the new member board... Over my years of motorcycling I've been pretty fortunate that I haven't yet hit the deck. I've washed out the front wheel on a few tar strips, sewer covers, and some dry cement mix sprinkled on the road in the...

    Best FJR mileage ever

I clicked in here to see if I possibly need a tune-up. By comparison, I'd say I'm good. I'm actually distracted by the "avg mpg" display, though. I've never had a vehicle with that. I've watched it read from 9 to 99.9. But if you go by the owners' manual, (I'm sure all of us responsible...
