Well, seems as though the cosmetic damage (mostly minor scratches) pushed my bike into total loss land.

2004 16k miles. They are offering: Net Settlement $6,559.90

I've got coverage for accessories and I'm yet to haggle about them...but the question is:

Is that a fair price for that bike not including farkles?

If my insurance co offered me that if it were my broke bike, I'd take it & not feel jipped. Amazing what they'll total a bike over, isn't it.

Edited to mention: don't know how inclined you might be to do this but, what would they charge you to buy the bike back? If you're equipped to do so, you might get it & part her out. (or fix it) I'd expect that you could get $1500 to a couple thou for engine alone.

If I saw an stock '04 ABS for sale in good shape for that price...I'd think it was perhaps a bit high....maybe $500 to $1000. So, that would suggest for insurance purposes a decent amount they're offering. I'd take it myself.

+1

But if I were certain enough about the damage being mostly cosmetic and not structural, I'd probably try to buy it back for a reasonable amount and fix it.

If Illinois state law allowed me to buy my bike back...I would have in a heartbeat. Lots of good memories wrapped up in that machine when it went wheels up on me in the ditch in AR...not to mention a brand new Penske shock.

Could buy it back for 25%. Engine runs beautifully (i tried to ride it home from the crash but the handlebars were too crooked).

I'm not that mechanical though and not equipped to part it out. I'm also afraid that when it gets torn down the frame might be cracked or tweaked from the frame sliders.

Anyone local needs a new engine or parts for an 04 this is your opportunity!

I just did a quick Google search for 2004 FJRs for sale and got a price range of $4.5k to $6k, so $6500 seems very fair.

But I'd agree with exskibum.....buy that sucker back, fix it and sell it.

The worst that could happen would be you ending up with a Honda ST1300....or even worse, a Gen II.

Not long ago there were a couple of folks after Gen 1 engines. Don't remember if there are any more.

& about the frame bending... It is highly unlikely if your crash was minor. I'd think it more of a possibility that the front subframes is tweaked from your accident description... but highly unlikely that the frame is bent if accident was fairly minor.

Did it fall hard on the front fairing? As in mirror area or corner of fairing?

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. I had to have my frame replaced after a "minor" accident.

Hell, buy it back and wait...

It's prolly just a matter of time 'til someone else around here grenades their engine due to a CCT failure and needs a replacement engine.

(I really hope I didn't just jinx myself.)

TRAVIS! Hey man!

& I do remember your lovely frame art in your garage. Don't remember the circumstances surrounding your oopsie.

Besides, I said highly unlikely... not impossible. Jeez, call a girl out after she says something she feels she knows about.

No calling out! I was just offering a different opinion. We men are still allowed to have those, right?

BTW, HiYa! I haven't seen you in a while.

Yes, of course you are. I've got lots of them too. Nice to see you post & you haven't been completely lost to your job. Tell Maureen hello.

Rt side mirror snapped off. Handlebars pretty bent. Other than that just some scratches on the tupperware. Front brake is shot (wondering if that happened pre crash) No leaking fluid anywhere.
