'06 bag width

Are the '06 bags smaller in capacity or just mounted closer together for the narrower profile on the '06s?

they are definitely mounted closer or tighter.

not sure about the capacity

They look the same. But are definitely mounted "under" the tail section more making the rear of the bike more narrow.

When compared to my '03, the bags are the same size. They are each located about 1 inch closer together so the bike is around 2" narrower.

Yamaha dealer told me they are the same size (so it has to be true!)

I did put my helmet in an '06 bag and it seemed to fit exactly as my '05 bag.

It is much easier to tell side by side '06 and an earlier year.

When I compared mine to thiers you can see the bracket just mounts the bags about an inch closer to center on each side, thus giving you close to 2" more rear clearance.

Everybit helps when you are sharing lanes in traffic!

I guess another food for thought is the fact that the tankslapper film is different for '05 vs '06 bikes.

(this is the film kit for the side/front of the bags, rear of the bags are the same)

Maybe the contour is just slightly different?

Before you put your bags on, check to see if the lower rubber pieces are on correctly. They are tapered to fit the bottom bracket on the bag. If upside down, the bag will go on hard. Pull the rubber off and slide it into the grove on the bottom of the bag, you'll see what I mean.

I found out while drilling mine to pin them. One has 2 holes in it now. :glare:

Ditto, both the bags on my '05 and '06 are the same size and are just mounted closer to the centerline of the bike.
