Picked up my new '06 on 3 May. As of today have put 1200 miles on it. A few observations, where is 6th gear??? sure would be nice to have a 6 speed. The seat, hasn't improved much in the first 1000k, will get an aftermarket as soon as available and donate this one to Guantanamo. Being 6' 3" I'll probably also get another taller windshield when one is available. Mirrors at highway speed vibrate so much as to be useless, everything is tight on the mirrors so don't know how to fix this. Brakes are just awesome. Last bike was an ST1100 and its brakes were nowhere as powerful. Power, probably more than I'll ever need, but great to have. Did a roll on with a friend on his ST1100, I was in 5th he was in 3rd we were going to go from 60 to 80. Result was we were about even up to 80 he had shifted to 4th in that run while I was still in 5th, we didn't back off and the next thing I saw was the speedo reading 130 and my friend way behind me or at least I think it was him as his headlight was hard to see and the vibrating mirrors made it hard to see, but the power is really cool. Bugs, seem to get hit with far more bugs than on the ST1100, not a real problem, just noticeable. Did 500 miles on some of New Mexico's finest twistie roads and the bike handles very well, but right side boot does drag fairly easily, haven't had that problem on the left side. All in all I am very satisfied so far, looking forward to a trip to Nova Scotia next month to be a real test of the bike.

I wonder what they did to the mirrors. I know that they are changed, but what did they do to screw them up? I have an '05, mirrors are dead solid. Of course, half of what you see is your elbows, but very clear elbows.

Glad you are liking her so far.

Vibrating mirrors? They should be rock solid, even at speed. Have they been tightened properly at the mount? I have heard of 05 deliveries with loose mirrors. :)

Mine vibrate over 60mph...everything gets fuzzy...will talk with my dealer at 600miles service.

Yes see your dealer, my 06 mirrors are rock solid at any speed, Scab is right the elbow shots are crystal clear.

The mirrors on my 2004 are dead solid at just about any speed or rpm. That is one of the things I really like about this bike. Maybe it will smooth out after a little breaking in. Be patient. This is a great motorcycle.

I"m sorry to hear about the mirror problem at 1200 miles. I originally posted on this problem with the revs between 3500 and 4100. clear as glass before and after that (at least so far....havent broken into 3 digit speeds yet). Other posters have stated that the vibration would remedy itself after break in. Guess thats not the case. I spend alot of time with that range, so its really annoying while keeping an eye out for vehicles behind me with light on the roof of their cars.

Let me know if you come up with something to remedy this issue.

thanx

Picked up my bike on Friday. Got 650 miles in the weekend. No problems with mirrors.

I am with most of you on the wind screen. I thought I would be able to get by with the stocker untill I raised the seat which made my legs more comfortable, but I am now to high in the wind blast wit the screen in the highest position. Will check out the aftermarket when they come out.

The mirrors pivot inside the painted part. Assuming you've already checked behind the dash to make sure the mirrors are bolted on snugly, try rotating the right-side mirror counter clockwise until it won't rotate any more (just a few degrees). Rotate the left-side mirror clockwise until it won't rotate any more (just a few degrees). This may clear it up for you.

All you 03,04, and 05 riders don't forget the FZ-1 mirrors will fix the elbow view problem. One of the best farkles I did. The elbows were really buggin me. I don't think they work on the 06 though.

I've figured out why there isn't a 6th gear. It's to keep us from cruising at 130mph... :yahoo:

Have over 1100 miles on my 06 and no vibration at any speed, suggest checking mounts.

I find that really odd. My left boot drags, but not my right. On my friend John's 04 ST1300 I also drags left boot & not the right. Maybe my left foot is bigger than my right?

No matter what, have a safe journey on your trip to Nova Scotia, and ENJOY! :clapping:

what really sucks about the new '06 mirrors is that they do not fold in as tight to the fairing as the '05s did...

now, i can't get the '06 into 1st floor motel rooms...

oh well, high class problem... lol...

hey wpbfjr,

Are you aware that the 06 mirrors tuck in tighter if you fold them forward.

Don't need no stinking 6th gear. If you had it no roll ons you would have to shift. Plus what are you complaining for. Us other model year owners hit 4 grand at 70. I hear you don't hit 4 grand til 80.
