Anyone care to guy whether this'll fit the earlier 'FJR Classic' models?

Yamadog Heat Shield

How much do you think it'll cost? I'm sure it'll fit as I don't think they changed that part of the bike. Looks just the same anyway.

Doesn't look like it would, but you could do the same with the heat blankets that others used under the tank. I think bounce has it on his site...

How's that insulating the airbox? It's clearly covering the engine comparment opening. :bleh:

TWN, agreed, but this looks a lot nicer.

Yea, it wraps the engine looks like to me. Appears that they are trying to avoid re-heating the air coming thru by letting it move over the engine. The enclosed part of the engine is cooled internally by the coolant so it can be enclosed as shown with no problems. This would tend to keep the air flowing thru the engine bay and onto the rider cooler. The insulation shown will keep the tank cooler, also, much like the add on we have been doing, but the tank insulation we have been doing is not going to keep the air flowing over the engine cooler like this mod will. Since that blanket wraps the engine it should be possible to adapt it to fit the earlier engines. But my engine compartment looks a lot more crowded than THAT picture!!

I called a dealer here in Cincinnati today. He won't have part numbers or prices for a couple of more weeks but assuming it's not stupid expensive, I'll roll the dice and buy one to see if it fits and how (or if) it helps at all.

I don't think any FJR owner is afraid their tank is going to explode. Sounds like an info commercial but I would buy a set if I didn't have to go through the auction on Ebay.

Will be curious to see how high someone will bid on the "kit" on eBay.

I lifted the gas tank on my 06 last night and put some photos of it here:

It appears to me that the way they are keeping the tank cool is by seperating the heat shield on the engine from direct contact with the bottom of the tank. This creates an air gap between the tank and shield and greatly slows heat transfer to the tank and also allows air flow under the tank through the cavity. Looks like a real good approach and I can tell you the tank doesn't even get warm.

That's my take on it anyway.

This is the first photo I've seen that proves beyond any doubt that the previous Top Gun light brackets are not going to work on the new FJR. They will have to be re-designed for the 2006 models.... :(
