I think it was WC that indicated that a Powerlet socket could be put near the battery on the '06 but had to be placed so as to fit exactly between the new fuse panels.

I did this mod today along with adding the hard wires for my heat troller and GPS. You do have to be very careful in placement of the hole in the panel. Pics to follow but in case you're interested, you need a 3/4" hole placed as follows:

To start, measure 1-5/16" right (outboard) along the rear edge of the panel starting from the rear-most inner corner. From this spot on the rear edge, measure forward into the panel 1-3/8"

From the right edge (sitting on the bike) measure inward 1-5/8". Take this measurement from near the rear-most outboard corner of the panel and align with the mark 1-3/8" from the rear edge. This is the spot to drill.

I installed mine on the left side...more room.

I needed mine on the right as that's where the power outlet is on my Cortech Super Mini Magnetic "Sirius in a bag"

Did you have any problems with the wire length or the powerlet placement with the fuse box?

thx.
No. I made the wires about 6" long. The powerlet fits between the fuse boxes and the fuse holder for the powerlet sits on top of the battery.
