07 clutch plate oil soak

I have a new 07 and while I am waiting for spring to arrive I thought I would pull the clutch plates, clean the goo and soak them in oil. The service manual is ordered. However, I am curious if you remove the the plates from the left or right side?

 
N777....the clutch is on the right side of the engine (even though the slave cylinder is on the left). You may need a new cover gasket. :assassin:

 
Sorry, but if you can't figure out where the clutch is, maybe you shouldn't attempt it.
You obviously don't know either. Gee, if I lived in Florida I might be doing something meaningful with my time (like riding my bike, flying my plane, fishing, a whole host of other things to do in a warm climate) other than wasting somebody's else's with a meaningless post.

Whoa newbie! Take a chill pill. You won't be attacking others like this or for where they live...unless we get to know you better and you at least put an emoticon.

I do know which side the clutch plates are on and was thinking the same thing. His was not at all an unreasonable post.

BTW, how do you know they're coated with goo or need to be soaked?

First, I have seen numerous posts on the 07 clutch issues. So, since spring can't find it's way to WI, I thought I would be proactive and remove the plates. If they are covered with grease or whatever is causing oil not to efficiently get to them as others have found, I would clean them and soak in oil as has been mentioned by many as a solution to the problem.

Second, all I am asking is if you remove the R or L clutch cover to access the plates. I wanted to order the appropriate gasket. FYI - the dealership wasn't sure which side to access it from either. Their final conclusion was the left side. So, I thought I would do the logical thing and ask someone who has done it so I could order the proper gasket. The first responder say's the right side, which is what I thought. I simply wanted confirmation from someone who has done this.

It was a simple question. I'll wait for the manual to arrive.

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers! Just meant that if your not sure of even what side it's on, then maybe you should leave it to more experienced hands is all. But, by all means, have at it. Btw, sitting on the bike, it's on the right side. Have fun!

i did mine last week ,it is really easy. they come out on the right side. The big round cover. then the five bolts that hold the spring. the spring is just a round disk, the damper comes right off, then the plats are right there.i used a small allen wrench to get them out. its really easy.just watch how the first plate. against the damper is a large one,and the last one is the small one , all the middle plates are the same. you can do it without the manual. Clutch cover torque is 12 NM 8.7 lb and spring is 8nm 5.8 lbs. tighten in xcross pattern then torque. if you think it has to be done, it does. it makes a world of difference. dean ;)

Thanks a bunch! I knew this wouldn't be rocket science, not much in life is. Most things are not difficult, they only appear to be, until....... you try. Now I know which gasket to order. Thanks again.

I also thank you bunches! My '05 has been a PITA since new RE/ when shifting into first gear. ALWAYS a clunk! Holding the clutch in for some time (say 10 seconds) does not improve the lack of smooth first gear engaging. The bike has done this since new, now has 12000 mi. with no improvment.

Your simple, yet comprehensive explaination of this procedure has encouraged me to do this remedy.
