I learned a long time ago that not running a battery tender on the bikes batteries they averaged about 1 to 2 years. Battery tender, they just keep going and going and...one of the best investments I have made. PM. <><

If the bike sits for any length of time, sure....but I rarely have a bike sit more than a week at the longest between rides.

I have a Tender and use it when we have winter weather that keeps me off two wheels - but averaging 25k-30k a year, needing a Tender is not an issue.

In Las Vegas I never had snow problems and rode year 'round, putting ~30k / year on the bikes I had there ('93 VFR, '95 Speed Triple, '97 T595, '99 Blackbird). Never needed a Tender...

The heat did them in there. My '90 FXR-S killed them with heat and vibration, and getting a year out of a battery was considered normal.

I get good life out of batteries here though, that's why I was very surprised to have my oem FJR battery to **** up at two years old. I only know about it's 2nd year though - and figure that six weeks off must have done it in.

I just spent a week on the road with the FJR, and had zero problems. I ran heated gear, PIAA's, etc and after seven days of road tripping with a 130,000 mile R90 /6 and a '75 Norton 850 Commando....I was pleased to cover 3,000 miles of backroad two lane in CO/UT/NV/CA without issue.

Pretty happy they didn't have any troubles either
