I realize that there are several threads on the glove box latching mechanism not working.
On my '07 it got to the point where the button stuck in the down position when you opened it. You also did not have to have the ignition key on,
just punch the button and pry it open with your fingernail. You then had to lift up on the latch mechanism so that when you closed the lid, it would latch and you would hear a click when it was latched. Otherwise, with the button stuck in the down position, the door would close, but was not latched.
I took it back to the dealer for what I assumed was a broken spring that popped the latch back up. They said that they had to order the part and would call me when it came in.
Two and a half weeks later they called to advise the part was in, so I took it in and waited approximately one hour for the warranty repair.
To my surprise, they replaced the whole box assembly. I would never have had this done on my dime, or rather $293.00. That's what the ticket reads - $216.98 for parts, $63.00 for labor + $13.02 tax.
It now works like it is supposed to. The ignition key has to be on, but you can be in any gear, does not have to be in neutral as I have read in other posts. I don't know if this was changed on the Gen II or whether the mechanic failed to hook that feature up, but I like not having to be in neutral to open the lid. I can not remember if I had to be in neutral before or not. Come to think of it, I can't remember having to have the ignition on, which probably had something to do with the broken latch to begin with.
