I have a new 08A - and I did the 600 mile service, and the manual says it needs a 1,000 mile as well.

The dealer I bought it from (CalCoast Motorsports) service department is booked for like 3 weeks! So, I called another dealer in Thousand Oaks and they said I didn't need the service until 3,500.

Advice?

My manual says 4000 is the next checkup. The only thing I can see that's critical at 4,000 is engine oil and steering head bearing tighten.

Refresh my memory. What exactly is called for in the 1,000 mile service?
Not aware of a 1k service but, if you want...

First, ride to the dealer.

Next, pay an outrageous sum of $$$.

Finally, bend over and say, "Thank you sir. May I have another?"

;)

In my owners manual, I thought it said 600 (which is the most critical) and then every 4000 after that.

You might want to read your manual a bit more closely... It's 600 mi / 1000 km (or 1 month). The next service is 4000 mi / 7000 km (or 6 months).

Yup.

Tis why I asked my question. I thought he may figure that out when he went looking for the info.

Don't worry BITS, we won't every give you shit about this from now on. Honest.

And as for the 600, or 4,000 mile service. Do it yourself and save some cash!

Now dats funny right there. And unfortunately, so painfully true.

You're absolutely right. Sorry for the false alarm - it's a clear case of SUD (Stupd User Detected)!!

I appreciate all the quick replies.

Now with that out of the way - I'm off for a ride! :yahoo:

I was wondering what they changed on the 08 to warrent the extra service. Recondition the BLACK PAINT?
