You should have the option of buying the bike - essentially, they take it out of your settlement - and parting out the bike. That depends on how much time and effort you have and are willing to invest. With the bike in 2008, I was not in any shape physically or mentally to deal with the bike. With the '09 wreck in 2012, I walked away and went through the process of parting out the bike - I knew that the suspension and a few key farkles would make it worthwhile - and I came out way ahead on that deal; I found another 2009 locally at a very good deal and all my "good stuff" moved right over.

The parts pricing is OEM or dealership pricing. Take that same list and price it out on partshark.com or similar site and the cost would be less. For my parts list, the insurance has it at $4900, but my price list is sitting at about $2100 for the same items (via partshark.com).
For the off I had in 2012, the repair estimate from the dealership was almost $15,000...

I figured there was some voodoo going on here. The prices they show are nucking futs... If I had the time, tools, and knowledge fixing it myself might be a lot of fun. Of those three the first is the most scarce at this point though the last is pretty lacking as well. LOL
 
Glad your OK.

Years ago someone tipped my bike over in a parking lot while i was in a store. Insurance totaled it and gave me $5300 and the bike for the salvage value. It cost me $650 in parts to make it good, not purfect but good enough for me.

If you decide not to fix it let me know what they offer as salvage on it and i'll be happy to make you a better offer.

 
Hurricane might slow things down a bit but I will let you guys know when I hear something. I'd love to fix it myself but as I said previously I barely have time to go for a ride and fixing it would consume all my free time. If I was retired.... well, I'm not yet.

 
What needs to be fixed for it to be rideable?

All my bikes have minor damage of some sort. Makes it easier to get over anything I add to them..

 
I bought a totaled ST1100 from Autocyclers in Madisonville, TN many years ago.

I couldn't figure out why it had been totaled and neither could they.

It looked like it had suffered a parking lot mishap.

I replaced about $300 worth of scratched or broken peripheral parts, took the required pictures, submitted them to the State of Tennessee, and was issued a Rebuilt Title without an inspection.

There was no frame damage. The tupperware was minimally dinged, and if I remember correctly, I was able to make it look very nice without spending much.

Sometimes a totaled bike can be a deal ... but I think a key is that you have to be able to evaluate the frame. If the frame is bent, there's no need to go any further in my view. YMMV.

 
That's a distinct possibility... though if I do that I won't look for much if any profit off it. If someone wants a project bike opportunity I'll be happy just to be made whole on it and find her a good home.

 
Okay, they are definitely going to total the bike. Assessor has to add the Cee Bailey's screen and the Givi SR357 rack but has already factored in the Canyon Cages and Givi V47.

Salvage cost for the bike will be about $5,700. If someone wants to paypal me $5,800 then I will keep the bike and they can arrange to either pick it up or do a fly and ride. It will be a salvage title....

 
Hmmm... I think I can probably get a good price on a 2016 ES at this point and I love that blue. That A model that's for sale here on the forum for dirt cheap is really tempting... but I love the ES.

Wait...it was the ES that got you into trouble in the first place...maybe you should just get the "A" and not worry about what you have the suspension set at.
