Spotted and 07 down by the mall yesterday. T-shirt and jeans. Believe you were partaking in the poker run. Thought it interesting your cruiser buddy had more PPE on than you. Must of been running with those harley boyz that influenced that behavior. ATGATT, better to sweat than to BLEED.
LOL you know what's even safer and better than ATGATT?? Stop riding motorcycles. They are dangerous. Let's outlaw them.
I take it your not much of an ATGATT kinda guy.
I'm both Scooter. Coming up on about the million mile mark since riding road bikes in '74. In the early days, no gear at all. Since then, some days I'm all out gear, some days, minimal gear (we have helmet law here, so always a helmet). I'm still around to ride another mile. My dad was a biker for over 40 yrs, and he is still around to ride another mile (not much of a gear person). There are many many that don't wear all the gear, but ride daily, like me.I dont judge them. It's their risk assesment problem. I can say this...there are MANY that think motorcycles have no business on the road with 2 ton cars and 18 wheelers. They would love to outlaw them completely. When other riders start ragging on this ATGATT nazi ****, then we have problems. If the law is followed, then its done, leave it be.
Last year, I was in texas hill country. I was at the Ben Rim Cafe. There was another FJR in the lot that I had been checking out.I dont know if he was a member here. After a while, a guy came out, full leathers, full gear. I saw him as he was about to exit the parking lot and was going to go out and say hi. As he was starting to leave, he was making a U-turn in the lot and duck paddling the bike in a HUGE *** circle. I was so taken back by what I was witnessing that I didnt even go out to meet him. It was ******* pathetic. If he cant make a uturn in a huge *** parking lot, how can he ride on a public road with traffic??? I was in some gear, but not all (no gloves or armored pants). I bet a dollar that if he had seen me, he would be here posting about some squid out there in less that ATGATT, never mind that he looked like a 13 yr boy trying to **** a football while attempting to exit the lot. And like most others, he would assume that choice of gear = riding ability and experience when seeing another rider. Never mind that the rider in question has almost 1 million safe miles under his belt, and rides practically EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR on multiple bikes in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions.
Think about this...some rider say no gear is needed, personal choice...there are riders that say a helmet is enough. Then others say that you need at least a helmet and boots. Then you move up to helmet, boots, jackets. Then you have ATGATT. Then you have the sub-groups. A DOT helmet is fine. No, you need a full face. That Shoei Mutitech modular? Thats crap, it'll come open in a crash. Get a full face. Then you have those that say, ALL LEATHERS, no cordura, nylon, etc. Then Q Public says , hey, dont argue over gear. Get rid of bikes with more than 90hp. No need for that kinda speed. Then the next level is, hell with horsepower, get rid of bikes completely, too dangerous.
Then you have the entire ATGATT riders that frequent spots like the Dragon, etc. that make them their personal road race track. They dont see the problem of gearing up and racing on public roads, but will tear into a rider that is riding "safely" at the speed limit with some gear missing. Which is more dangerous?
I dunno.
You get the drift. For those that say it will never happen, research what happened to the ultra-light segment of general aviation. I lived thru that debacle, and now the sport is all but dead. So many ultra-lighters that thought their idea of safety was a golden rule that was more important than laws and now not many have to worry about it anymore because there is not much left to regulate.
I'm a biker. I'm a grown man. Don't worry about what I wear, or what he is wearing. You ***** your tolerance for risk, and more importantly, learn to ride and stop being Big Brother. Everyone will be happier.
END OF RANT.
