In late July I met three other gentlemen in Torrey Utah for a trip to Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Colorado. This is the first day for me. The trip lasted 17 days.
Two of the gentlemen road new 2006 BMW 1200GTs and one had a 2002 BMW R1150RT with over 100,000 miles on it....and I of course road my 2006 FJR...
I had plans to take 2 days to get to Torrey Ut, but I re-evaluated when I reached I-40 west of Albuquerque.
Leaving San Antonio around 8am. 469 miles down I-10 I tried to match the speedo to the Temp 100mph at 100 degrees
For several hours the temps stayed above 100 maxing out at 108
I saw some rain clouds in the distance and prayed for rain to cool me off.....no luck
Later nearing 8pm I notice if I got lucky I would have gone 800 miles by 8pm...
After leaving I-40 heading north I knew I was out of places to stay...I called my friend in Torrey and told him of my plans....don't wake me is all he said...I'll leave the door open. The hardest part of the adventure was going through Capitol Reef National Park at 2 am...All the animals crossing the road...cows lying in the road and the shadows playing tricks on my eyes and mind as I road through...I managed to only make contact with a Jack Rabbit....
Capitol Reef at around 2am.
I got to Torrey around 5am my time....21 hours 1305 miles...took longer than it needed to but I never got above 50mph in the park and I stopped for dinner around 11pm in Shiprock NM.
The next day I spent in a hammock in the back yard wondering why I decided to ride straight through.....
