Pretty much agree with your comment and piccie. Lot's of BIG BOYS here have dropped their FJRs

so I'm thinking it's more about finess than upper body strength or height, whatever. Of course them

what gots long shanks have a distinct advantage over vertically challenged, but you still need the

skills. I'm 6'2" and 32" inseam and have dropped many a bike over the years, except my FJR. That's

one of the few that didn't hit the deck. Every time I did the deed it was because I was either extremely

tired or innattentive.

As far as BIG vs. small, THIS LADY doesn't

appear to have long legs or lots of upper body strength

And I second the RIDE LIKE A PRO suggestion. Not only does

it show how to ride a bike very well in slow speed manuevers, like a U-turn in 18 feet on a large bike (not

talking about FJR, which is really not that big), but also how a teeny-weeny girl can pick up a big heavy

bike with not that much effort and not f++k up their back.

OLDRYDER - Go for it and have a great time with your daughter. I have friends that are very much in

to riding - he a big Harley Ultra - she an 1100 Star and she's maybe 5' and skinny. When their son

reached the age where he could get a learner's permit, they applied to the state of Colorado for him

to get a motorcycle learner's permit. The response was that he didn't even have a permit for a car.

Stepdad argued that he would not be driving a car, he would be riding a motorcycle (Kawasaki Vulcan).

He got the permit and did just fine. They are a family that rides together, just like you

I would sugest getting the DVD "Ride Like A Pro V" It shows you the Motor Officer Course and shows 125/lbs# women riding a full dress Harley like it's a bicycle, it really helped my bike handling/riding skills, t

Agreed on "Ride Like A Pro". My son has been on dirt bikes since he was three, at fifteen he can handle the FJR just fine. (5'7" 150lbs.) I can't wait for him to become legal to ride on the street. We race hare scrambles together and he has reached the point where I can't stay with him anymore. Like a lot of teenagers (and some of us old guys) he has a need for speed. But it is tempered with common sense. Something only a parent can really decide if their kid has. I worry much more about the other drivers on the road, even when he is in a car. I worry about my boy and want to keep him locked in a safe room somedays, but that's no life. I would be devistated if something happened to him, but I can't be with him 24/7. All I can do is teach him the best I can and hope for the best. If I had a daughter, she'd ride too. Bikes really seem to bring a family together. It's one thing my dad, my son and myself have in common, brings us closer together. I'm happy to see you are close to your daughter, too many parents today are too busy to spend time with their kids. Part of why this country is in the mess its in. Regardless of what others say on this thread, the decision is yours. Choose wisely.

My wife makes my Feej sexy as hell.... But she does not ride it solo... She just wants to hang out with me as I sweat testosterone and carve canyons at speed... She digs that as much as I do

I wish my wife shared my passion of riding motorcycles like you do MEM. Wouldn't that be fun. My wife can take it but would rather leave it. I am lucky though that all my kids love riding. 2 boys and a girl all constantly hounding me to take them out riding. I look forward to the day I can ride Street bikes to Alaska with my son. And hopefully my Daughter will still have the passion to. I say start them young and they will be hooked.

I feel very fortunate, My wife LOVES!!!! to ride pillion... All the way from slow sightseeing to ripping up a canyon (on a closed course with spotters) hanging off and attempting the perfect line and balls or rubber exiting the edges of the tires....

I love my wife,, and she will ride with me anytime anywhere at any speed.... long as she has tunes on her ipod.. She takes pride is moving with me as I shift around on the bike. She always asks me "How did i do" after we conquer a canyon.. the biggest compliment she can hear is "I could not feel you back there" She loves to sync up and move as one.. and is very good at it!!

You are a lucky man. My ex-wife would go with me sometimes, but never really got with it. If I find a new one, maybe she will ride herself, or at least tour with me.

I do ok. I'm pretty comfortable at slow-speed maneuvers which I think is one test of ability. "Canyon carving"? probably not so much. But I'm working on it. I'm lucky to have a cousin who is a very capable sport-bike rider and who encourages me to stretch my limits. Can't wait for good weather to get back at it ! :yahoo:

BTW, my husband has his licence but hasn't been on a bike in a couple of years - and has yet to try my bike (I'm glad about that since he might want to ride it ). He has a sailboat and golf ...

MEM, all I can say is you have one lucky husband. I would give my left you know what to have a wife like you that rides. I would be riding with her all the time. Some guys priorities are messed up, come on sail boats and golf? Just sayin...

Don't get me wrong my wife will ride with me but when they don't have the passion for it, it's just not the same...

yes, Slow speed ability is Paramount!!

Take you time learning to learning to push it... Take classes, track classes, other classes too..........

I encourage you to get educated about going fast as you learn to do so and develop the muscle memory to counter the but pucker reactions that can and will happen when carving.....

I am glad your hubby has no problem letting you play while he golfs and sails... No need to smother one another..

I've take both the basic and experienced riders courses. My cousin mentioned a track session in the Spring. I'm thinking I might talk them into letting me tag along

I take a hybrid track course/trackday each year... It is with an instructor.. on a race track. I am sure there are many like that by you. We can chat more about that later.... Learning in a sea of testosterone is not where to learn... perhaps that may be where to play, but not learn.. But ERC is just the beginning of the places to learn. (I have taken both BRC and ERC, they should be mandatory to get licensed)

more on that later, Glad you and John like golf, (that is hitting that little ball with the big stick and trying to find it right??)...... I dont,,, but who cares.. Sailing?? Ehhh BTDT.... sawright.. But as a sailor (US Navy not any more) i got my share of the water too

In a recent discussion my 17 year old daughter commented that the best part of her summers are our annual road trips. I feel very lucky that I have something to share with her that we both enjoy so much. YOunger daugher (15) feels the same way but is happy as a passenger.

17 year old started riding last year but it was pretty restricted. I'll have to give her more freedom this year and it'll be tough; one because of all the bonehead drivers out there and two because she has more confidence than skill. I'm planning on fixing the confidence/skill thing by taking several local advanced rider classes with her. our local roadracing ***'n has some very active members and there's some excellent classes.

My wife doesn't ride much with me, after trying her on 3 different bikes I finally admitted the only things she'll ride burn hay.

ps - interesting observation you make about your 17-yo's confidence level exceeding her skill level. I started riding late in life so it's the reverse phenomenon for me. I KNOW how easily and quickly s**t happens. Ah, the irony of youth...

If she can ride a GS750, she'll be fine on the FJR.

The FJR is actually less top-heavy and a bit easier to ride, IMHO.

Remember, most of the visual bulk of the FJR is tupperware.
