Out for a nice 300 mile ride today, taken it real easy. Low fuel light flashing-no big deal next town only 30 miles away. Cool started counting miles since empty started flashing, nice feature. Pass late model Yukon and round the bend and BUSTED. Hiway patrol hits lights and turns around to pull me over. I parked the bike and notice the guy in the yukon I just passed stopped to talk with patrol guy. I go into story how I just got the bike last week and riding with my earplugs in I just didn't realize my speed. Hiway patrol laughs and complements me on my story and said he nailed me at 81 in a 55. He also is a rider but says he has to give me a ticket. That was his boss (off duty) in the yukon and guessed I passed him way over 100. I'm screwed! I beg for mercy and he writes the ticket for 70 in 55. Hand over credit card- swipe $165.00. This year is not starting out good. Pulled over twice in Jan. (Texas is full of cops) 50 in a 25 and 90 in a 75. Maybe I should think about radar detector? Any one have much experience?

Hmmmmm. Son, er yew a sloe lerner, er whut?

1st, your brain must communicate with your right wrist in concert with you eyes believing what the speedometer says. Then your eyes must assimilate the knowlege posted on those little rectangular signs, where the number value is followed by the letters: MPH. Then your brain must cognitvely reason and speak to your right wrist so as NOT to violate the knowledge gained from the aforementioned signs. Once all of this is accomplished, you will have exhibited wisdom.

Until then, Grasshopper, you will continue to support your local government coffers via deposits into the revenuer's coffers. I would think your insurance premium isn't likely to go unpunished, either.

If you are going to continue to ride in your usual manner, with reckless abandon as regarding speed, a radar detector could be an invaluable tool.

Oh yeah, CONGRATULATIONS on being the first '06 owner to, uhm, collect a speed verification certificate. (A dubious honor, no doubt!)

Amen

First ride out on my new (to me) FJR after years on cruisers, I was sailing serenely along the local four lane. Seemed like I was just floating, things felt well planted on the road, all was well.

I glanced at the speedometer, 140 km/hr  !!!

Thats around 84 mph.

Darn thing is just too smoooooth!

Here, that is 4 demerrit points, $295.00 (thankfully from reading, not personal experience)....and a resulting much larger insurance bill. I forget the number but also, a loss of a certain number of points and you are hauled in to explain why you really need your drivers license.

Needless to say, I relaxed my grip on my right hand a bit.

I have learned to feel what legal highway speed (or closer to it) feels like to avoid these nasty "issues".

I still "light it up" once and a while but carefully, in a place of my own choosing. :D

denny......

I can relate here. I am scared half to death with the FJR. I'm running at least "20 over" ALL the time.

I look down and am doing 75 in a 55.... or 55 in a 35. I have a few Escort Radar detectors, but don't know how to mount 'em on the FJR.

Believe me..... you have my sympathies. The FJR, altho not a real sport bike, is very EZ to ignite. :assasin:

BAGGER

Try this place. They have a number of ways to mount devices. I have orderd a "stemstand" and detector mounting plate for the right handlebar. YMMV.

denny,

I live in Texas as well... repeat after me... Valentine 1... Valentine 1... Valentine 1... now get thee to the website! Congrats on the performance awards... hopefully those will be the last 2 for a while.

+1 - My V1 has saved me at least triple what it cost.

i passed a cop today, looked down, just short of 75 in 55 zone, didnt have and clue i was going that fast, thankfully he didnt come for me, probably cause others were in same range.

just a thought ---- how accurate is the speedo?????

need to mount my gps and compare, just seems like it reads quite a bit faster than reality.

a definate must in the very near future, mount my V1 !!!!!!!

peace all, safe travels

Or,

next time get on HWY 318 in Nevada between Ely and Ash Springs and enjoy 94 mi's of unpatrolled bliss(no speed limit!!). Don't even bother to look at the speedo :D

Congratulations on being first, and you thought it ment something good will happen. Not on this board for that kind of first.

Hope it is your last and a lesson learned, happy trails or should it be watch out for the LEO's

Smooth it is & regretfully the sensation of speed is way behind the actual speed. If you don't watch your speedo the Performance awards will come.

One of those sneaky Yucons got me stopped some 12+ years ago. Lights behind the grill. I was lucky that day and was 'let go'. ;)

I would recommend getting a Harley instead of radar detector as you might be better off with something you don't have to worry about speeding on (unless riding away from a hurricane in hurricane winds) :D :D !

I use to use a Valentine One in my Vet. But I gave up on it and I have just learned to keep it under 3 digits - I have noticed more & more cops in Texas are just using INSTANT-ON which means all a radar detector is going to tell you in remote areas is to pull-over the split-second BEFORE the lights come on.

Good luck.

Best Regards,

Shane

I am in Texas also. Too many cops. Was out late without my escort. Got to go to court next week, 74 in 45. They said I had to go because it was too fast and I needed to talk to the Judge before defered or defensive driving.
