Short Version:

--2-up weekend ride is to get our ***** fitted for custom seats and watch our seats being built

--Kathryn is expecting a Romantic get-away.

Trouble ahead?

Long version:

I ride pretty much when I want, and that is a lot. Kathryn knows it's part of me and there is no (well little) animosity toward my riding time.

Riding is not something we share. We don't ride together much as she's really not a fan of the bike. She's a good sport, and an occassional ride is about as far as it goes.

(The best part though, ..she only likes twisties so at least I don't have to shy away from spirited roads!)

So when she does go, we make it short, scenic and it is my wallet that comes out at the nice motels and restaurants. My way of showing my love and appreciation for her sharing in my passion. As far as these overnight trips, they are few.

Well, this weekend is an overnight (two night) 2-up trip. ....and I think i'm in trouble.

We're heading up to (near) Redding on Friday afternoon. Saturday we've got an 8:30a ride-in with Rick Mayer for some custom seats. This is where Rick takes polaroid shots of your ass, has you mount the bike and then proceeds to build a custom seat. He'll be doing this for both our *****.

I know if I told kathy what we're doing she'd say: "You gotta be F'n kidding me!?!" her idea of pampering is a spa day or similar. Not getting your ass photographed measured and fitted for a motorcycle seat. ...one that her ass will be in a few days a year at best.

To make it worse, I overheard her on the phone speaking with a girlfriend last night:

"He won't tell me, but I think we're going to Yosemite ........

OH ****,

....in her mind is beautiful waterfalls, the sierras, moonlight hikes, pampering at the splendid Ahwahnee lodge etc etc etc.

and the reality,

....Redding California, super-duper 8motel, and a day of sitting around getting your ass measured and fitted for a motorcyle seat ..meanwhile talking motorcyles. Oh, and capped off with a steak at "Jack's" (well can't go wrong there).

So will this be the test of a relationship?, No we're good together and stronger than that ....BUT, all I can say ....theses custom seats better be damn good. Rick: you better make these the love seats LOL LOL

Senor RenoJuan,

She may be pissed at you once she realizes where you are taking her and what is going on....

But she will Thank you on the return trip. Word.

Just tell her that you are very concerned over her comfort while on the bike, and this ride is for her... ah... tookis. You just can't stand the thought of her pretty little a&% being sore on a trip.

And take a nice bottle of wine for her to sip on between fittings and test rides.

(My wife keeps in asking when we're going to get "her" seat done ... I better not let her see this, or it will be sooner than later.)

Find a Bed and Breakfast. Pack a picnic lunch to consume at a scenic location after your ***** are measured (make it a surprise). Talk dirty to her in French.

Good luck man!

Don't know if you'll find a B&B in Anderson CA. Its definately not going to be the weekend she has imagined in her mind, but she may still chalk it up to an 'adventure.' Rick's wife is a nice gal and I'm sure while the 'boys' are talking bikes, they'll be able to do their thing.

Lake Shasta is close by...scenic as hell and nice this time of year. Look for a B&B or a nice hotel around Shasta City I think. I will do a quick search. Maybe you can get away with this.

shasta resorts

I hope this linky works. The other thing I would do is call Katie at Russel and see if she can help. She is a nice person.

Dang man - Don't you know your new custom seat won't fit after gf gets done chewing your ass. You'll have to go back in for a second fitting...

Does Kathryn like dogs? When I was there a couple years ago, there were a few pens full of (I think) Newfoundlands. Check with Rick if there's any puppies the right age to adopt, then hope she falls in love with one (if she has a place to keep a 150# super-friendly slobber-critter). That'll help keep her distracted from the fact that a stranger is repeatedly - um, er - "sizing-up" her posterior. Can't really think of anything romantic nearby - wife mentioned the "sundial bridge" in Redding gets visited a lot... Kind of on the way back to Reno is Burney Falls North 5 - 10 miles off of Hwy 299, which is scenic and reasonably close to Redding (50 miles or so), but then go 299 to 395 to Reno (straight and boring) but you won't get hung up on the endless 35 mph speed limit of Lassen Park, which is also pretty, but probably still deep under snow.

Good luck,

While I agree Katie at Russel is very helpful and friendly, he's not going to get a Russel Seat, he's getting a Rick Mayer seat.

You're ******, just not THIS weekend :p
LOL, yep, when all said and done, ..you nailed it.

FUNNY, wonder if she'll come with me for the 2nd fitting

Thanks for the fun and advice. And Yep, I know that area very well. Made a slight change in plans. Anderson Friday (and of course a run into Jack's for dinner) ..but when we're done at Rick's on saturday were heading up to Quincy where we'll spend the night and possibly do some adventure hiking/riding etc -maybe even a run or two up La Porte rd which just opened

...kathy likes that area. AND, the car races are on at the fairgrounds that night (nothing better than small hick-town car races), kinda like a cross between a bad county fair and a meth convention ..not to mention the good-ol'-boys with their tube-top trashy women in tow. Always a good time. LOL

What's wrong with trashy women in tube tops?
