If there is, I'd be more than happy to organize and lead a 2-up ride on Sat for those interested. I'm like some other folks here, I don't do many group rides and when I do, I'd rather lead or be the XO at the rear. I did this last year and am more than willing to do it this year.

Assuming there will be interest, please let me know what you'd like to see or do (unless someone else wants to be trailboss in which case I'll tell you!). The 9 rides developed by Jeff and Jim and others are all great rides (and the work is done!!), but we can plot our own ride that includes the desires of folks participating. For instance, Lorie and I spent a weekend at a B&B in Lexington, VA. It's a nice little town and worthy of a stop for lunch/fuel/tour (VA Military Academy is also there). The New River Gorge bridge is pretty impressive too. Standing by...

This will be my first time at the EOM. I will be riding two up but it looked like there were some decent two-up rides already. But hey, I'm just looking to ride. I'm going to wait and see. Be getting there on Friday afternoon/evening

Jim,

Sounds good; you could either a.) pick a route, launch time, etc. or b.) take votes for a route & post launch time, etc.

Either way, If you would like to head that up, it would be much appreciated. Can we label it the "stop and smell the roses" group? Would it be safe to say that the pace would lean towards Riders who are more interested in seeing the country side rather than burning up a set of tires, right?

Thanks,

Wayne

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I won't be two-up, but I might be in for smelling some scenery. If so, I'll be happy to run sweep for you.

Yes! I will be bringing my wife for the first time and would be interested in a two-up ride. The two things I want her to see are "the bridge" and the restaurant in Paint Bank. If you could incorporate one of these in this ride it would be great!

Thanks,

Larry

Thanks Jeff. You know how much I hate that piece of crap Garmin Mapsource program developed by some 3d grader between health class, social studies, and clearing his nose of any and all foreign matter that might have snuck in there!

We would be very interested in the 2 up......It doesnt really matter where we ride, just want to ride... :yahoo: We have been to the bridge a couple of times on our own since we live about 90 minutes away from it....(Cross Lanes).....(close by the dog track).....It is beautiful....thanks for taking the lead.

The Pillion Paparazzi and I will be 2-up as well. First time EOMers, but over the years I've done a lot of riding in groups of people I know and people I've just met. I have yet to have any issues at all, as long as the bike in front of me doesn't lolly-gag too damn much and completely lose the group.

Personally I'd like to see the bridge, but if there's a cool 2-up ride on Saturday, we can just check out the bridge on Sunday. One thing I learned from the last rally we attended - if a local is willing to lead a ride, go on it.

Still looking forward to regretting meeting you all,

Andy

This will be our 4th year doing the OEM 2-up.

It's been my experience that on Saturday, we are amp'd and ready to ride hard.

By Sunday, (4th day of our trip), the road is starting to take it's toll and we're ready to slow it up and take more/longer breaks.

At least for us, a shorter distance "smell the roses" Sunday ride, is an attractive thought.

Late on Sunday, many pillions may be ready for some hotel time by then, while we ride solo.

So, if there could be a mid-point stop at the hotel, everyboby has options.

There may also be people just not feeling an all day ride on Sunday....(who brought that moonshine again?)

Being careful to hit the highlights,

I chopped EOM-1 down to 252 mils (6hrs, 20min) and EOM-9 down to 275 (6hrs, 11min)

I call them EOM-1-SHORT and EOM-2-SHORT. (these may also be very popular routes if the weather sucks)

Perhaps we could match one of these with a optional shorty ride that afternoon? (need suggestions on this part)

Just my 2 cents.....

Watching with interest......

Quicksilver - those are two good rides that can have parts chopped off to make them shorter. I'm looking at about the same range as you - 250 - 280 or so. # 5 can have about 100mi chopped off and looks interesting. #7 looks good and is clearly designed for 2 uppers. My only reason for not jumping on that right off is I think that's what I/we rode last year (or was is #4) and I thought to mix up the ride and combine a couple routes to do a different ride this year.

Bottom line, many options and plenty of time to chose 1 or make a hybrid! I actually kinda like the "not for the meek" #8 (don't think it would appeal to my lovely wife however). Maybe I'll try and stay over another night and ride that one on Sunday.

I will make one recommendation this year -- bring warm clothes! Last year it was brisk to say the least and I think a couple of folks would have been much happier if they were warmer. I'm happiest when I'm warm and still have 1 piece of clothing in the bag!

I know how Mr and Mrs Quicksilver ride. Had a hard time keeping up with them solo. Don't let them lead! :blushsmiley:

Isn't that a fact Jack... or uh Jim. I actually wore my rainsuit over my clothes one morning & it wasn't raining. I was trying to break the wind w/o passing gas. It sure warmed up nicely in the afternoons... but it was chilly in the morning. I may bring well vented winter gear this year as opposed to my mesh gear.

So, which parts of 9 did you keep in. Might you be sharing w/ enquiring minds?
