Ok, the last two central Kali mornings have been c-h-i-l-l-y.. 20 degrees F for most of the 50 minute commute. I don't know how you back East and up North guys do it. Looks like I'll be adding the electrics soon.. :cold:

Go faster. Really.

Do you have the handguards? Aftermarket larger screen? What have you got so far?

Dude, I'm already running 85-90 most all the way... Don't have that much so far.. No hand guards, electric grips, chaps or vest yet. Currently using an oversize Rifle (works great), long sleeve shirt, sweat shirt, Tourmaster Flex, neck warmer thing, baclava, Joe Rocket pants, good boots and calf high socks. I have some time off around Christmas.. Me thinks Crzy8 is going into the barn for some electrical work.. wire up the blue seas? fuse block, then get, at least, the electric vest operational. As an aside, I used to commute on a full dress Harley.. that bike was much warmer.. it had full leg wind protection, and the fairing completely protects the hands and upper torso. Then again, it has a hard time running at 90...

16 below here yesterday but warmed up to minus 3 this morning. Looking for a tropical heat wave today as temps are supposed to climb way up to 28 degrees.

How do we "up north" do it? We stow the bike in the garage until March, meanwhile don the capilene long underwear and drive the 4x4 pickup.

Get the handguards, they help bigtime. I have heard the little "foot protecting fairings" are a big help also, but I don't have those.(they are sold overseas I think) Then, a snowmobile suit will take you far. Personally, I use insulated pants, a goose-down coat, and a baclava. I can tolerate temps down to the mid to upper teens. My weak spots are my toes and my visor fogging.

And i thought it was cold here in Torrance this morning at 38.

Toooooooooooooo cold for me.

Richard

Heated grips, Oxtar Matrix Gore-tex boots, bigger windscreen, FG Kili jacket w/fleece liner. I have a Widder vest but actually don't feel the need to use it unless the temp is <30 or the ride is an hour or longer. And winter gloves when absolutely necessary. I'd actually much rather ride when it's 25 degrees than when it's 90 degrees!

You poor guys in Central California! Up here in Sacramento we had a blamy 30 degrees for our commute! Hint: This is what those liners are for ;)

Hey D, don't you have an 06?

I have the cure for you. I'll remove the foil heat insulation blanket I worked so hard to create off my 05. You ride my bike in the winter, I'll ride your 06 in the summer.

Guaranteed to keep at least your nuts warm. Nothing else really matters anyway, right???

:D :D :D

Only suggestions I have on clothing are:

Layers - have always found that more layers works better than more insulation.

Prep Time - try to time your departure so that you spend a few minutes in all your ride clothes to warm them before you leave. But not so long as to start sweating indoors. Turn the heat down/off at home early so that you can start layering up as you get ready to leave, without roasting.

Gear warming - Keep your helmet and gloves warm until the last minute. I can never seem to recover if my helmet and/or gloves are cold when I put them on.

Most of my tips are only good for rides of one hour or less. Below 30 around here for only a month or so.

FWIW, my motocross gear works pretty darn good. I know you have some!

+ or - 30 is okay to ride in, it's the freezing rain and the 4 to 10 inches of snow that tends to bring things to a halt around here.

Hey D,

I hear Britney Spears has lots of panties she's not using. Not exactly how I planned on getting into her panties, but it's a start, right???
