Occasionally I'll do something stupid when stopping or starting my FJR1300 and I'll kill the engin. When this happens, I seem to have a momentary short in the electrical system and the trip milage and clock reset to zero and 12:00. Is this something to worry about or just be aware of? Should I replace the battery? When I go out to start the bike in the morning, it always starts strong and easily.

Could be a loose connection somewhere... have you electrically farkled the bike at all? Might want to double check some of the wiring bundles to your dash...

Electrical system is fully stock, so far as I know.

Can you induce it to happen, or is it a sometimes yes, sometimes no thing? Also, do you have the YES coverage? Might be worthwhile to let Yammy diagnose it...

It's battery time. Or you could wait until it lets you down completely.
WestCo batteries at SportbikeEffects

Note discount information in my signature area.
Maybe, maybe not. If it's original, it's time anyway. But still, clean both posts and cables, as well as the ground at the lower right front of the engine case. Bet that stops it from happening.

Most of the reports where the reset occurs is usually when the bike is hot and it is stalled and restarted quickly. It gives you a weak battery feel. Mine has done this on occasion like when the bike is hot.If I restart to move it within a few minutes when the bike is hot or stall and hit the button within seconds the dash resets. I have a replacement from Bike Effects to install. mine is an 03 bought in Juluy of 02 with the original battery.

Interesting, my 03 did the same thing to me the other day. Never did it before, cold cranks are quick and seem powerfull. I guess it might be time for a new battery, heat will show a batteries weekness just as much as an ice cold winter morning start will.

Electrical system is fully stock, so far as I know. However, I am the 2nd owner.

Great responses, thanks. I think I'll go with a new battery since I believe the one I have is the original. So now I need to know, where do I get information on how to access the battery and what tools I'll need. I'm not much of a mechanic but need to know the basics. Is there an instuction manual? If so, where do I get it?

The battery is under the right side panels where your fairing box would otherwise be. Simple to remove and detailed in the owners' manual.

Thanks much.

To all '03 owners, if you still have the OE battery, you are very, VERY lucky.

Just change it now.

Mine konked out 10 months ago, and yes I am a religious Battery Tender user.

It was 36 months old.

'04 folks need to be thinking about it if you going on a long trip in September. (like the EOM)

Money saved, you gonna be changing it out before long anyway.

The FJR does push start quit easily though. That's a nice feature when your in a jam.
