Roadhammer here

After replacing frt and rear tires with roadsmarts and carefully assembling rear tire as per the FJR TECH article the rear abs function does not work; the rear brake will lock up.

there are no abs warning lights. Placing the bike on the center stand and using second gear and lightly reving the engine causes the abs light to blink. I have removed the sensor cleaned it with a light scrubbing with 600 grit and replaced the same; same RESULT . The brakes work fine, just no abs action. the abs system worked fine before the tire change. I have replaced two sets of tires with no problem.

what do you think. and thanks for the help.

regards roadhammer

Your symptoms aren't adding up. The blinking light while on the stand shows normal functioning, ie: reading differing speeds from the sensors.

Roadhammer; thanks for the reply. this is the problem; no abs warning light, just no abs braking. the frt abs brake works fine in the dirt. still confused

Were you able to resolve the problem? Please let me konw what the problems was and how you fixed it because my 04 has the same problem.

thanks

My '04 ABS does not have the same problem but I am following this thread closely becuase the gods have really dry senses of humor.

A a few months ago, I realized my ABS wasn't working. I'm not an aggressive rider, so I don't know how long the condition was. It was time to swap tires, so took it to the shop (I trust these guys.) They took it for a test and said neither the front nor rear were working. Based on a look at the brake fluid (which had not been changed under my watch, so that would be at least 18 months--shame on me) they guessed "gunk" was trapped in the actuator (?). They checked and cleaned the front and rear sensors, and flushed and replaced the brake fluid. The front worked again, but not the rear. They thought that with the new fluid, the gunk might wash out, if it did they suggested I flush the fluid again real fast to remove whatever it was that was now free. A month or so ago, I hit the rear brake hard in the parking lot just to check, and at that time still no ABS. I guess I should check it more often. I was told if the ABS system is totally hosed, it is prohibitively expensive to fix (or at least to pay someone else to fix it?).

I have this same problem on my '04. I posted it a few months ago here, got a few helpful suggestions but it still doesn't work.

Since then, I have bought the proper service manual with the ABS section. There are a lot of tests in there that can be tried, but I haven't done it yet.

Sorry to be of little help.
