I just came back from checking out a 2005 KLR bone stock with 430 (yes you read right) miles on it that the guy wants $3500.00 for. Its been sitting in his garage the last year and a half and the battery was dead so he is going to have it serviced and call me back. He dropped the bike in the dirt once and it has a couple of small scratches on the side cover and the choke lever had to be cable tied on but thats about it for damage. His house is sold and he is moving in 3 weeks to WV so he is a motivated seller. Judging by his home and his other toys, this thing must have been maintained very well. Even his lawnmower looked good sitting on the rubberized garage floor next to his pristine Corvette.....So what do you KLR guys think I should offer this guy?

NADA.com will give you a fair idea. Used KLRs don't sit around very long. The latest guide from MCN lists an of at 3700.00. If you get it or any other one make sure you deal with the balance shaft issue. AKA Dohickey. That is about the only issue with the motor.

KLR 400 right?

The DRZ 400 is the same (bolt for bolt) bike. Just one is called DRZ and one KLR. I bought a used 2006 DRZ in mint contition w/1000 miles $3900.

I would say anything at or less than $3500 would be fair.

Are you looking to really go off road or Supermoto it, or just tool around on dirt roads?

Good Luck it's a bullet proof bike.

That would depend on how much you really want it.....wouldn't it?.... .....

Sounds like a deal for 430 miles. The 08 is much improved and can be had for about $5k.

There is an 06 in the local paper with 450 miles. Asking $3900 for it. I think that is a fairly accurate price. Has me salivating a bit as a former owner and a buddy suggesting we go to Alaska in summer 08. But after also owning a dl1000 I am thinking dl650. If you get it for $3500 or less and it is that clean I think you got a good deal.

Well axeman, did you buy it? If you do you'll want to replce the light switch housing with the european housing. The new housing comes with a choke relocation bracket, so you'll kill two birds with one shot. ( european switch is mo-better )

Still waiting for a callback to tell me he had it serviced. I figure the closer it gets to his moving date the more flexible he will be with the price. Since its something I want but don't necessarily need I'm willing to hold out. Thanks for the tip on the housing. I've been surfing around some of the KLR sites and there is lots of good info out there about the bike.

If he is moving to WV and sells it, he will regret it.

Based on my ownership of a KLR for a grand total of less than one week, if you don't buy it you will (regret it) too. Offer him 3K and see if he will meet you somewhere near the middle.

Yeah, I know this is of absolutely no help. Good luck, follow your heart, cause buying any motorcycle is not a rational decision!

He is moving to WV but he has a screwed up back so his riding days are over. He called today to say he has an appointment with a local dealer for the 18th and just wanted to make sure I was still interested and of course I told him yes. So I guess now its just wait and see.

real money on a new klr is about 4800.00. D and H sold me a new 06 a year ago for 4699 with no junk fees of any kind. So figure another 100-200 for a new 08. As far as used ones go, a bud just this week scored a 06 with 1800 miles and a few extras at 3800. You cant justify spending more than the mid to upper 3 grand range on used when new ones are cheap as **** at back of 5 grand real money.

Well its a done deal.....$3K for the bike and he even threw in a very nice aluminum loading ramp :yahoo: Let the farkling begin!

I'll be picking it up in a couple of weeks after I get back from vacation and I'll post up some pics of it.
