If you are right it kind of makes this redundant then

And from Yamaha's UK site this would suggest you have to select which mode you want

Hand shift or foot shift options The YCC-S system allows gear shifting to be carried out either by hand or foot operation. The new FJR1300AS is equipped with a hand shift switch located on the left side handlebar switchgear, as well as a conventional-looking gearshift pedal which operates an internal shift switch.

By selecting ‘hand shift mode’, the rider can shift up and down with the left thumb, and without the ‘hand shift mode’ selected, the rider can change gear by using the gearshift pedal. Although this gearshift pedal looks like a conventional system, it actually operates an internal electronic switch, and actually has no mechanical linkage with the transmission.

To add another 12v outlet go to Radio Shack and get a 90 degree swivel dual cigar outlet. If you want more than 2 or 3 plug ins, get another adapter and put it in one of the plugs. I have my 05 rigged up that way. very simple, easy to remove the unit that are powered if you want to. Much simpler but not as attractive as hard wiring. IMHO, tis function over form!! :p
I understand but the cover needs to be closed under weigh. Where is the outlet or channel from the box for any wire for the gadget you want to hook up to it? Still going to have to mount a Hella plug outside the Glove Box for clothes etc..

I was at Bay Area Yamaha today getting the 12,000 mile service done and mounting my new Avons on the 05. According the tech, Yamaha had both 06 bikes at Alices Restaurant on 35 and 84 in CA near SFO the other day and he saw them. I asked him about the fairing - If you are hot and the temp is high you close the fairing next to the frame.

If it is cold you open it and get heat to warm you up.

Check out the gallery for 06 FJR on the Yamahammer page it shows it open and closed.

This is the main reason for the 06 for me the other is the AE.
