I have the front wheel off my bike to rep[lace front tire. While wheel is off I would like to replace the front fork springs can that be done with out completely taking the forks apart.

Spring suggestions any one ???

Thanks Jerry

Springs come out the top so changing them is a relatively easy job. Unless you know it's been done recently, change the fork fluid while you have them out of the clamps.

Lots of options for springs, 0.95 - 1.0 kg rate is very popular with folks.

The Race Tech springs are an easy choice, just don't forget to add the installation kit for them and be prepared to cut down the preload spacer thingy by the difference in spring lengths (uncompressed).

I just installed Ohlins springs (1.0 kg/mm, i.e. 10 N/mm; 210 lb rider) while doing the fork oil change in my bike (2007 model). Very easy since they are exactly the same length as the OEM springs, and the disassembly required to swap them out is minimal (and required anyway, to measure fork oil level).

I just did a 15-mile test ride and quite like the change - I'm wishing I'd done this much earlier, and now I'm thinking the rear needs an upgrade as well. Unfortunately that end is much more expensive...

I weigh 175 lbs. in street clothes, ride mostly solo, went with .95 springs in my '08 which seem just right for me. DO change fork oil about every 12K as fresh fluid does make a small difference in ride compliance.
