ABS light goes on, ignition off / back on resets it, but it comes back after a while...

Sometimes speedo drops to zero (always when ABS light is also on), then after a few miles it quits shifting, engine obviously stalls when I stop (in whatever gear the bike was) same remedy, ignition off/on resets and its good again for few miles

And the speedo sometimes goes crazy, see

(not sure how to add video on this forum...)
Anybody any hints to help out a newbie on the forum ???

Have you specifically tried tightening your battery terminals?

Note, I didn't ask if your battery terminals look tight or think they're tight.

I'll add, has your FJR had the ground harness recall done? Your mix of symptoms could be a loose battery connection as mentioned but could also be a connector corrosion problem or a loose connector on the ECU, especially if someone did the Barbarian Jumper modification to the ECU connector and didn't latch the connector back in place. Another item that controls main power is the ignition switch which also has a recall. The ABS light is the odd duck, the other symptoms could be attributed to the ECU but to have the ABS light at the same time points to something other than the ECU or ABS systems.

Thanks,

Not sure abt the recalls, It has been imported here in Belgium quite some years ago without service history... Is there an easy way to check this?

What is the Barbarian Jumper mod? And how can I verify this?

I think I might need to get a hold of a service manual...

Djeeke,

In the USA, I would make a telephone call to the Yamaha mothership (1-800-962-7926). I'm not sure about how that might work from Belgium, though. If they are able to help, simply give them the Vehicle Identity Number (VIN) and they can tell you about the recalls now done or due, on that bike. They may refer you to the European Yamaha folks, if they can not help you directly.

Cheers,

Infrared

Thanks guys,

I have some stuff to check this weekend & possibly call a Yamaha dealer next week here in Belgium end maybe even in the US since this bike has lived the first part of its life over there ;-)

Anybody could recommend a dealer willing to check if I send them my VIN number (it's obvious they won't be getting any business from me but worth a try anyways ;-)

The european models don't need the barbarian jumper mode. https://www.fjr1300.info/howto/jumper.html .They already have this mode ''Co Settings''from mama Yamaha https://www.fjr1300.info/howto/co_adjustment.html

These links are for a 2001-2005 model,i posted these to show you about..

As about the recalls,a Yamaha dealer can tell you if they have done with the VIN number. If he can't for a reason, call the central Yamaha at Belgium.

But wait, you said that your fjr lived the first part of its life in US.Then probably it is a US model without the barbarian jumper mode.

Then,it is more possible to find everything about the recalls if you call the Yamaha mothership in US,as mentioned before..
