I've been considering an FJR for a little bit now, and I've found what I think is a good deal. 2006 AE. 21,000 miles $7,200. It belongs to a good friend so I know where it's been and how it's been cared for. All recalls have been performed and the bike is in very good shape. It will need tires soon, and the 26,000 mile valve check is coming up. So since I'm an FJR noob, what do you FJR veterans think?

Its hard to barter with a friend, its kind of like you take their offer or not to avoid hard feelings, however, the Mar issue of Motorcycle Consumer news lists the value of an 06AE fjr as $8690 so it would appear to be a good deal and no friendship problems.

Fireman10000,

Your title says 2007, the message says 2006. Which is it? Check the For Sale section of the Forum for a 2006AE, and look at the asking price, mileage and condition. You may be able to answer your own question.

I found my 2007AE (yes I know his is a 2006) on fleabay for $7100 with only 5200 miles on it. Look around you may be able to do better.

With the state of the economy and outstanding buys out there, friend or not it's too much money. Check out the forum classifieds, Cycle Trader and if you can stomach it, the local CL ads.

Good luck with the search.

Well, I've been researching this, and the price is at the higher end of what 2006's are going for, but I have total confidence in buying from my friend. I've known him for years, and he is the only owner of this bike. It has been taken care of properly, and it's local. Most of the other bikes that are within my area, and $9-$11,000, and I don't want to put that much into a single bike at this point. I've got a WR 250 R as well, and not sure I want to sell it yet. That brings up another question, are these bikes known for attaining high mileage without major issues? I feel like 21,000 miles is only a fraction of this bikes life, and will more than likely get many years of enjoyment out of it.

Check the pinned mileage thread at the top of this sub forum title high mileage FJR's. There's at least one that went over 200k miles before it was crashed one too many times.

I just went the other way...had the FJR, and recently got a WR250R. They are COMPLETELY different bikes with zero overlap in my opinion.

Paid $6900 for my 07 with 35k on it. But it also had a Moto Cruise control, Touring Performance triple clamp, Garmin 276c with the mount, touring windshield, and accessory plug near the passenger peg. So with the great service records and all the accessories I could not pass it up. It feels new to me. Almost forgot, it has the Power Commander 3 on it.
