Hey guys,

I talked to a Yamaha Dealer sales rep friend of mine yesterday that says they have already ordered an 07 for stock.

I was both pleased and surprised to hear that. I assume Yamaha has done away with the PDP finally? ...or have they just put a bike down in an employee or owner's name?

Anyway, he says he will give me a call to come take a look when it hits the floor. I understand the deep red color (black cherry) will knock your eyes out in person. Me like! :yahoo:

Do you think you can you buy a 1400cc big bore kit for this motor? ...as in 08 Concours specs. :dribble:

Yeah, I understand, but I will say as a comparison, the dealer also had an 07 GoldWing in a metallic dark cherry.

Having seen it in person I can say it is absolutely (and subjectively) beautiful, ...but if you go to the Honda web site, which I would normally never do, and pull up a pic of the same color GW it looks very bland, like a dull chocolate color. You have to see the FJR for real, I guess, as some Yamaha reps did during their intro preview show.

Without intending to sound insulting, "who cares?" No, stick with me.

First and foremost, the FJR has far more than enough balls for its intended purpose. Anyone who doesn't think so is simply riding the wrong bike, or looking for more of a do-everything bike than is currently on the market. It's both torquey in the low end AND will stretch your arms and bring a smile in the top end. It's one of a very few bikes across the spectrum to do that. It's in a small group of bikes who perform with that kind of power across the whole range. 'Busas, Ninja 14s, etc. So, let's all agree that it's a win in that way.

Secondly, this incremental escalation is just silly. Nearly every bike on the market, ESPECIALLY these big bore power houses, brings more and more power to the street. That's good and bad. At least here in the states any numbnuts can walk into any dealer and ride out - UNLICENSED - on any bike in the showroom. Anyone who thinks that's not stupid isn't seeing the big picture.

Third, when... seriously... can you ever use that much power to its potential? Oh, I know the arguments everyone uses, and they're mostly valid. "Need to have that power on tap", "better to have it and not need it, than not have it when you need it", etc. All good and valid points. But seriously, do you really think adding another 100ccs, for probably a $2500 or more price tag is worth it in any way at all? At some point it becomes far less about usable power and for more about ***** envy and bragging rights.

If you want a 200 MPH superbike than buy one. Otherwise, enjoy the fact that you've got one of the best, most powerful, capable and comfortable all-around road bikes made, and quit worrying about burying the speedometer - a feat that's not even remotely legally possible anyway (here in the 'states).

Again, no insult intended. But this escalation *will* cause problems with regulation and control by "the man". It will. It has in the past.

No way in California can you ride out without a license or for that matter without proof of insurance. I don't know where you got your info on this subject but its inaccurate.

But I agree there are too many buyers without experience that buy way too much bike for their ability.

Yeah, no more PDP. Word is the dealers are getting allotments based on how many FJR's they sold last year. Personally, I'd rather have a PDP with a choice of options (color, brakes, grip warmers...) than a one-size-fits-all floor model. Again, JMO,DMS. They could do it both ways and sell more than they have been, but I guess customer satisfaction is a lower priority than profit motive.
As for the color, not that my opinion matters, but
big_barf.gif
. When I was considering an FJ Cruiser, black cherry wasn't even a consideration for me. Now that I have seen one in person, I have confirmation. But I had a choice of colors and options. I ordered one built to my liking, and it showed up eight weeks later. What a concept! This week I'll be criticizing Yamaha, as my fans demand variety. As always, YMMV.

Since the Kawi is actually only 1352 cc, it is feasible that somebody could come up with a big bore kit, if it's not already available. There is one member who might be looking at a rebuild :( , so stay tuned to the "Turned 100k" thread for developments. I certainly wouldn't tear my motor apart before its time just to look for more power. Get a liter bike if you want to haul ***. Just my opinion.....

Are you willing to put your money on it???? Because here in IL the LAW says the same, but reality shows other wise. You wont imagine how many people I know who ride w/o license and insurance. I get people trying to get into MSF classes all the time who just went and bought a GXRX1000 or non other then Busa. And all those body donors getting their bikes at the local "wonderful" dealers who only care about selling the bikes. They do not care if the person lives or other wise. They do not look into tomorrow, they only concentrating on making the sale today.

Jerald from D&H already placed an order and I am expecting mine in January.

And I sure hope that the color going to be as great as I think it will

The gtr is actually 1352cc, not a true 1400. The fjr is 1298. You're looking at a gain of 54cc, which I don't think is going to be worth the expense of the bore kit.

Then again, I've seen you ride the FZ, and I'm not sure what you'd do with the extra power!

j/k

BTW, let me know if you're going to put the FZ on the market, Dennis may be interested in it.

Hey Slap! I'd just be able to pass you that much quicker.

But! In all reality I couldn't use any more power. Can I just go back and edit the comment about the 1400 and Concours out of this thread. I didn't see it as being of real interest to anyone anyway. I'm just saying, it would be like Yamaha to build a bigger motor for 08 right after I buy the last one of the previous year model. I'd rather see electronic cruise control personally.

I love my FZ1 but will eventually want to move up to the FJR and unfortunately there won't be room for both. I'll post it up here if and when I ever decide to let her go.

Done did ...and it will!

I want to get an FJR when I grow up.

Hey RepairMan, I'll sell you my '06A with electronic CC and lots of other good farkles. I love the new color and would jump at the chance to get one. :clapping:

I got my information from first hand experience. It happens - All over the place. Insurance to get tags, yes. License, no. It's a joke. I've never once had my license checked for having a valid endorsement while purchasing a motorcycle, nor tagging it in those occasions where I've bought out of state. It happens a lot, and all over the place. Frankly, it's stupid. I don't know why the states would let *anyone* buy a vehicle without being properly licensed for that class of vehicle, business leases not withstanding.

I wish all states had the provisions in place - and the balls to push it - like California does, if that's a CA law. I'd like to see the states repeal license plates for improperly or unlicensed owners. Jeezuz, that'd be a fantastic day. It would cut the number of ******** squids by 50% day one.

Oh wait.... I'm probably treading on "rights" again with such ideas, huh?

Make sure it is a unit that has been repainted

I heard some of the pre-production black-cherry bikes had some qulaity control problems with fading, and they had to change the formula............

Yes I'm baiting

SEE...some people DO like the new color... :)
I have a 06 (blue), which I like just fine. I also like the new color. I am not going to trade mine in just to get the new color but if I were in the market for a new FJR I sure wouldn't hesitate to get the 07.

Repairman-I usually see you over on the other forum (FZ-1). I am now on this forum as I will be trading in my '06 FZ-1 in next spring for an '07 FJR which I have a deposit on. I was not willing to spend more money on it to make it right (FI hesistation). These FZ-1's must be dogs as I could not sell mine since August even at more than $2000 under MSRP. Glad to see your coming over to the other side.

Hey Rumble, hope you won't be disappointed with the FI hesitation on the FJR, I also ride an '06 FZ1 and find the throttle response on the FZ no worse than on my '06 feejer. I took the slack out of the throttle cable on both bikes and have no (major) complaints on either bike. It also was a learning curve to get used to it.

I'm sure you're right Petey as Desmo from over on the other forum found this statement in a Toyota document regarding the FI hesitation. I have other reasons for making the upgrade as well. I need less sport and more touring in my equation now.

Even Ivan agrees:

However, he has created a FCE (fuel cut eliminator) that essentially does away with the problem.

Riders are applauding the FCE as it really works:

Perhaps Ivan could do something for the FJR or do most riders not feel it?

N'Rumble, no amount of agreeing and submitting to the guidelines has let me in. Is this a register or else site?
