Well, notifications were in our mail boxes this morning. I personally know of at least 5, possibly 6 FJR's in the 2007 Iron Butt so far.

From what I understand people who got in to the IBR have been asked not to post about it. You know to be sensitive to people like me who didnt get picked. :cray:

To all of those of who you who got in, Congrats!!! :drinks: :good:

Is the IBR sort of like the Boston Marathon where you have to qualify by finishing other rallys first? For some reason I always thought it was open to anyone who was a member.

Technically it is open to anybody. Realistically however, with several thousand entries for 120 spots, it is much harder to get into than one may expect.

I thought it was a lottery from among members who applied. I know that some members get their name in more than once because of some reason or other, so that increases their chances, but it is random.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but it was a multiple lottery system with 4 draws I believe. Previous IBR finishers in the first draw for a certain number of positions. Second lottery was for volunteer workers for a smaller number of slots. Third was Premier Members for an even smaller batch. Fourth was the final for all applications. A person could theoretically be in 4 draw attempts with various odds in each draw.

Having a long resume of rides and rallies wasn't required, but I think having some ride experience certainly would was.

And, yes, it's a courtesy thing. There are a relative small number of folks luckier than they deserver that are jumping for joy and a larger amount of folks that got the 'sorry' e-mail. Bad form to go around flaunting it if you got the good e-mail.

You might get an answer from individuals if you ask directly, but I doubt they're going to answer open ended questions in the open like this.

Reminds me of the movie Major League where those that got chosen weren't supposed to flaunt it in the locker room. They're supposed to be sensitive and go outside like Willie 'Mays' Hayes and do their victory dance.

That is fairly close to the mark.... some applications get additional opportunities to be drawn based upon their veteran status, their previous volunteer services, etc, etc.

Congrats to all who were drawn. You're in for it now.... :D

And I suspect the high number of FJRs in the event is more indicative of the fact that the FJR is the premier LD platform out there.... relatively inexpensive, extremely comfortable, very fast, an outstanding aftermarket farkle industry (both commercial and home-grown), and perhaps most important of all, the momentum of a significant group of high-viz Endurance Riders who have adopted this platform because they know the best when they see it. :D

There is no other machine on the road today I would want to take on a multi-day Endurance Rally other than the FJR1300.

This is even more true today more than ever, since the bike's sole glaring weakness (as far as LD riders are concerned) has been rectified by Yamaha for 2006, that being, of course, the 590-watt alternator. And now that prior year FJRs can also easily install an upgraded alternator nowadays, this is just icing on the cake.

Congrats again to all entrants who were drawn. I know there is a huge grin on your face now.... but let's see how you're smiling come about Day 7..... at 3AM..... cresting a 9000' summit.... in the rain.....

I remember in 05, crossing Pennsylvania at 3:00AM, pouring rain, fog and not covered picnic table in the last 200 miles. I would have quit if I could have found a motel room. I ended up curling up next to a gas pump and sleeping for 2 hours. I got up, felt better and kicked butt for the rest of the rally. You never know.

Yup.

For every rider that got in, there's about 25 that didn't.

No need to go bragging if you got in, it should be slow news at this time.

Suffice to say, I'll be getting one of those updated stators and doing a complete Farkle re-haul before next years Cal 24. <G>

After examining your electrical farkles at the Cal24 last weekend.... please let me install this stator for you.

Please.

Wish I woulda taken a photo of Georgie's FJR. It was getting all kinds of attention. But not the good kind.

At least not when he was around. ;)

After just installing mine, PLEASE seek help! I would hate to see how you hack it together! I'm sure it would work, but I'm sure it would work better if it were inside the engine... and without the wires running on the outside of the body work.....
