I am looking into buying some heated gear and want to make sure the alternator can handle the job. I will also be adding other things like a GPS and just do not want to have alternator issues.

Anyone have any tips/info?

Thanks,

Steve

Read the Bin O' Facts as you were suggested when you signed up. Details are included in there about alternator capacity, spare watts, and some examples of some items.

Here are some numbers for my '08 FJR and my elec stuff.

590 watts @5000 rpm is the alternator capacity

120 to 130 watt spare capacity

35 w for a Widder heated vest

36 w for Yamaha OEM heated grips

10 w for McCruise control

15 w for Zumo 550

18 w for JMCB radio

114 w installed capacity

However, 70 - 75 mph in top gear is below 5000 rpm, I don't remember, it's around 4000 rpm.

I haven't installed the CB radio yet and it has not been cold enough for the heated vest yet. My last installation will be a voltage sensor, then I'll know for sure how I stand on wattage.
