I don't see how you can possibly compare otd pricing from state to state. Here in Connecticut the sales tax is 6%, in some other states it might be 3% or 8% - quite a range when buying a $10K purchase. Likewise registration costs vary from state to stae considerably. Geez in Alabama I found out hey don't have any cost for temp tags - they just don't have them!

To compare dealers' quotes to me I always ask them for the out the door price EXCLUDING taxes & registration. I want to know only what they want for the bike / car. If they are going to add in shipping or any bs fees I want them all in the price they are quoting me. I will never pay a single $.01 over that after we agree on a price. The bs 'conveyance fee' that many dealers have imprinted on the sales contract is bs. Just another charge they can often get away with.

When you know what the dealer really wants, its easy to compare. That's why dealers like D&H are so successful. Here is the price, done. No conveyance fees. no shipping fees, no other bs charges.

I can tell you my otd price from them for the 08 1300a was 11999. Yeah, but when I got back to CT & registered it I had to pay the taxes & registration fees.

You don't have to be a math major - just don't let the salesperson ******** you.

The prices you guys are quoting here are much better than what I'm hearing from the dealers here in the Dallas-Fort Worth. I just spent all morning driving to 3 different dealerships in this 100 degree Texas heat and the best deal I could get was $13,650.00
MY wife is from Ft Worth. I just asked her - don't they have *phones* there? :)

+1. Got mine just outside of Chicago for 11,800 plus tax/fees.
I live in the Chicago area, mind sharing the name of your dealer? ;)

Ask for James in sales. He's been there forever, and plays straight. Tell him I sent ya (Roy with the green Triumph Speed Triple). Heck, if you buy from him and he gives me a birddog, I'll split it with ya.

**I've never had a problem with the service/parts guys either. Everytime I come in with a price I found on the web, they've at least matched, usually beat. And I'd much rather spend my $ locally.**

Chicago tax is 10% (yep, the highest in the nation. yay.). So don't register in Chicago, if you can avoid it.

We have phones but 3 out of 4 dealers would olny quote sticker if you wern't there in person. One dealer wanted me to fill out a credit app before he would deal with me over the phone. I may have to wait until the off season.

Guys...Thanks for all the information on your pricing experiences. I won't be prepared to purchase for another 30 days or so, so hope it will still be there. I have a couple more spotted in two other dealerships that I believe might match this deal in the event this one gets gone. Since all the dealerships are out there quite a ways, I believe my next bit of due diligence is to talk to the mechanics in each of the service depts. Try and determine their depth of experience and particularly how much FJR work they have done. Want to ask some questions about FJR assembly as well. I want to buy from someone that can fix whatever I can't, and have confidence that it's done right. Ride Safe!, Joe
Don't wait too long. I contacted 11 different dealerships in the northern part of the state, including GA and NC and not one dealership had an A model and only 1 had an '08 AE. They all said they had sold out and only had '09s ordered.

Thanks, I know the dealership, and his brother at Arlington Motorsports, in Arl Heights. I'll have to stop by and see them. Thx agin!

These price threads piss me off  Here in NorCal I paid 14k otd in April
Yeah, don't feel too bad Husky...I too paid 14 OTD down here in SOCAL. You got to remember though that we pay almost $1,000 more just in tax and license fees that they do in South Carolina.

Dealer Profit is $1800.00 how much they want to give up is up to them. Their job is to make as much as possible and our job is to save as much as possible. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!!

Just outside Buffalo, NY: paid 12,400 before taxes, etc. back in

late January. Picked it up on a sunny dry day. Very happy

6,000 miles later. Motor and shifting both get smoother with

miles like most people say. I rode a C14 and a K1200GT and

feel i made the right choice.

I just bought one in Lawton, OK. I paid $12,245.00 plus taxes back in Texas. As I understand it all "stealers" pay the same price for the bike and all have a 3% factory holdback that is paid to each stealer by quarter or year (I can't remember what he said).

My inside information tells me that a stealer pays $11,842.00 for the bike including the assembly (or build) fees that come with the bike. That means if the stealer sells the bike for $11,842.00 he will ultimately make: $355.26 (for the Yamaha holdback). Thusly, a stealer can sell one for: $11,486.74 and break even (make 0 dollars). Most will not cut into the holdback, however, this economy is very tough right now. Taxes are different in every state, so, one can't compare OTD price state to state.

My opinion on price is: $12,000.00 plus tt&l. D&H sells them for $11,999.99 all day long. I paid $12,245.00 to a stealer 88 miles from where I live and the cost of flying to Cullman, AL and riding it back plus gas, hotel and food far outweighted the extra $245.00 I paid locally.

I am very happy with the bike (except the color) and can only say "What a Machine"! Good luck, Dirk.

Dirk...this is good information. Thinking through all these posts, I guess we all realize that dealers have to make some money, or we wouldn't have any dealerships to go to and look at bikes (as we all like to do). But if you can find a dealer that's willing to really deal, with a really good service facility, then that's worth our business. Looks like you found one.

Thanks again for the info on the base and holdback numbers...Joe

Great price, they're ranging from 11,899 to 12,500 before taxes & fees up here in CT, RI & Western MA... good luck

Just paid $12,800 OTD near St. Louis. Guess I should have held out a little! But my ride today up to Augusta made me forget about that (for a while).

This is all great feedback and I appreciate each one taking the time to reply. Sounds like I may have a little bit of wiggle room yet. This particular bike had a noticeable scuff on the right bag where some numb-nuts dragged his heel across it while either mounting or dismounting. Salesman said he couldn't do anything about that. Hmmm. I'll keep looking and pricing. I hope to be on my new FJR sometime in mid to late September. Thanks, Joe

The dealer dropped mine $1100 from msrp, which essentially covered all the added costs (tax, title, registration, delivery, setup, processing fee, assembly, etc). I wasn't in the haggling mood, so I took mine home for $13,879 otd - I guess reading this forum now, I paid a bit more than most - oh well S#!T happens.

I just paid $12,400.00 + TT&L but had to go 130 miles out of DFW area to get that. I apparently left a little money on the table but I'm happy with the deal. I saved about $900.00 by going out of town. It cost me $50.00 in gas and half a day for me and my wife, well worth the effort.

And did I mention, I FREAKIN LOVE THIS MOTORCYCLE!

Zute and Fergi,

Thanks for sharing your buying price. The important thing is that you are happy with the purchase and the bike. Ride safe and ride often!, Regards, Joe
