Is there a DIY for gen 2 fork oil change. I saw article on fjr tech but change was for gen 1. I have manual but wanted to know if some steps were not required. My bike has approx 23k miles with no fork issues.

I used the FJRTech article the first time I changed my fork oil. Not sure why he says to remove the horns, I didn't.

Gen2 should be more or less the same, unless there is something extra to do with ABS?

Go for it!

Al.

Ross. That's great, but I think the OP only wants to flush and change the oil? No mention of seal leak.

At 23,000 miles, the bushings and seals are still probably OK but are probably through half their life. The drain, flush and fill are relatively simple and (with a service manual) you shouldn't have any problems. You will be surprised how ugly the old oil will be! I used Bel-Ray 5 wt. oil - many choices out there but use a fairly low viscosity oil (OEM is very low viscosity). The trickiest part of the process is re-torquing the lower pinch bolts for the fork legs after re-assembly. You will want to flush the forks with some new oil after draining. Some use kerosene or ATF but I just used 2x a small amount (half-cup or so) of new oil. (Didn't want to worry about getting the other stuff out afterward) I bought two quarts of oil so there was plenty for flushing. One quart isn't enough to do the job; even without flushing.

I haven't really looked at it in awhile, but I think the Gen I instructions in FJR Tech will get you there. Good luck!
