Hi All,

Would appreciate some input ,just did a little shopping for a 2009 FJR in Sacramento California. Bottom line 13,500 out the door I really wasn't sure on what MSRP is but with the 2010 model coming to dealers soon I thought they would be willing to get rid of old inventory.

So please feel free to voice your opinions and if theres any other ideas to haggle the deal for before buying let me know that too.

Not a great deal. I bought my 08A perfect condition, 1500 miles for 9K and could have bought new 08 still in crate from dealer for 11,500.

Note the other respondents are not Californians. I bought my '05 for 14K OTD in the summer of '04. I was within $500 of the Cali average at the time, and I know others paid more. Sounds like they are dealing.

If at all possible, I'd highly recommend a call to Roseville Yamaha - They may or may not match the price, but they are one of the few 5-star Yamaha service centers around, their main service writer (Zac) runs Andrew Knight's old '05, and they've treated all of the FJR owners I've ever talked to very well.

I think the Cali models have that special emissions crap added on so you have to pay more. Not to mention your tax rate about now must be through the roof with all that debt. Buy from D&H in Alabama and drive it home. I did.

My SO purchased a new 09 FJR from D&H in December. $11,999 out the door.

Nice bunch to deal with. Had it shiped to Wy for $525.

Paid $12,200. for mine this summer. A number of dealers told me that they couldn't match that price.

Thanks for your input and everyone's input as well. OK I initially got the quote from OTD Auburn but I believe OTD is having some finanical troubles and the rumor is Auburn might be closing in the near future. So I called a Sacramento dealer and they were willing to match the 13,500 price for the 2009 modle. I did speak with someone at D&D but the best they could do is 11,900 + fees and have it shipped to Nevada or Utah address then I would have to wait till the bike has 8,000 or so mile on it so I could register it in California.

I orginally wanted to buy used, but all I was seeing were 2005 models and I was really considering them but nothing local and dealing with owners 400 miles away is not easy. So I thought I would consider new and try and get the best deal I could.

FWIW I got my 2009 in July for 13k in WA state. I think your price is decent, given you are in CA and can ride longer each year than most. Which means less seasonality around price changes.

 
OTD prices are really hard to compare from state to state and in some instances from city to city due to widely varying local tax structures.

It's easier to compare prices before applicable tax and licensing fees.

By the way I paid $11899 for my 08 A back in 08 for what it's worth. That is before any taxes or registration.

IIRC, you'd still have to pay the CA sales tax when you register it, unless it has 7,500 miles on it already. The sales tax, registration fees, and cost of shipping the bike cross-country would probably negate the OTD savings of a D&H purchase.

Probably wouldn't make you a preferred customer at your local Yamaha dealer either. (if yours hasn't gone out of business yet)

I bought my new 09 in PA for 10500 in May. I would look a little more if you have not already pulled the trigger. They wanted 13,500 also.

If yours was truly BRAND NEW, then you got and EXCEPTIONAL deal. Not one that many, if any, other peeps will get.

And believe me, the California market is different than anywhere else in the country. They don't get the bargains found elsewhere.

I paid $12,475 + $779.69 Massachusetts sales tax. I did get the dealer to throw in a four year Y.E.S. plan for nothing though. You should see what your dealer will do for you in regards to this. Good luck.

 
Part of the CA issue is not so much the cost of the emmissions equipment, but rather one of supply. 49-state folks don't want the excess emissions stuff, but CA is one of (if not the largest market for bikes). Sport-tourers tends to be a reall small part of the market anyway (relatively speaking).

So mfg try to estimate CA vs 49-state bikes. 49-state bike can go anywhere. CA bikes don't sell real well outside of CA. So, there tend to be more deals on the non-CA bikes. That said, when I searched last spring CA dealers ran about $500 more than outside CA dealers for the same '08 or '09 FJR (after shopping around for a deal - which took some calls)

The other thing mfgs do (being the Japanese mfgs are all based her in SoCal) is use 49-state bikes for their sale reps and demo bikes. Once they hit 7500 miles, they put them up for sale. Demo bikes- dicey option. But a sales rep bike, especially here in SoCal where the factory, not dealer, does the prep and maint, and if the rep didn't abuse the bike, can make very a very nice deal. I basically got an '08 with 8k miles and 12 month warranty for $2k less than all new. not great, but worked for me. So the '09 sales rep bikes will be coming up for sale soon. That and those who bought, rode for one season, and decide they don't like riding or want a different bike. I'm not into paying new vehicle prices. I found there were lots of options last spring when looking in Craigslist and CycleTrader (I set up browser links pre-set with my filter selections - made it easy to check daily for new listings)

 
D & H in Cullman AL still has two new 09's left for $11.999 and then you pay your own TTL depending on your state. BTW: The dealer inventory for any FJR seems to be very low across the country - and Ebay wasn't listing any clutch versions at all (3 AEs though). So if you are looking for an 09 and find one- you'd better buy it- you snooze you loose. I'm waiting on a 2010 myself. :D
