2010 or 2008?

If you get the 08, take the money saved and get the KFG suspension upgrades. Come to think of it, get the 10 for 7500, and do the same.

No way cruise control is worth 800.

That is what I'm thinking. 67K well maintained miles should be nothing on a FJR1300. And the cruise control is $800 alone. The 2008 just had the top end done and new fork seals. The service history is very good and has been performed by a mechanic.
What do you mean that the "2008 just had the top end done"? A valve check and even some modest re-shimming is expected and normal at that mileage but I wouldn't consider that the top end was "done". If there was anything more needed, I would run from that one! Charging a premium price because the owner had routine required maintenance done is not realistic. The McCruise @ $800 is expensive but that is the price they seem to be charging. Don't look at it as an $800 value but, perhaps, a couple of hundred (the cost of doing it yourself with something other than the McCruise). I put quite a few miles on my bike and I would consider that $2500 extra for 56k miles is worth it. Maybe not so much if you do less than 10,000 miles per year. If the 2010 is at a dealer, I would go for it and, given the time of year I would dicker the price with them. If they won't budge on the price, you might hit them up for accessories or some sort of service deal (if you trust them). Lots of bikes out there and with used Gen III's coming on the market, you might do at least as well if you wait and continue to look.

Good luck!

The 2010 is being sold about 2k below avg retail value. That is the deal here. Even if you pay him his asking price you are getting a great deal on a nearly new bike.

i agree with RossKean....if it is a typical valve adjustment then fine...anything more than that i would stay away...i would go with the 2010, you can add the extras on and know the history

RossKean and FredW i agree with fully and beat me to the punch

I will speak to the seller of the 2008 again. I'm pretty sure that the valves were just checked and adjusted if any needed it. He is a long distance type of rider and was on top of the maintenance. The dealer that has the 2010 is not a factory dealership, but rather a seller of used motorcycles, so accessories and service are non-starters. LOL, definitely much more discussion over here.

I'm slightly concerned about the 08' seller showing it to a potential buyer when it's dirty. When buying a used car or bike, you are buying the seller as much as the vehicle and seems like a conscientious seller would try to their best foot forward. And, as noted above, what does "top end" mean. Either way though, whether it was a rebuilt top-end or valve adjust, that cost should not be passed on in the form of a higher or firm price since he was the one who had the benefit of those miles not you. The 67k miles themselves are nothing for an FJR depending on the service and treatment of the bike. That being said, I usually prefer to pay a little extra if I can buy down to a lower miles bike, $2500 though is a more than just a little though. However, you can always add farkles, you can't get those miles back.

All things being equal, that many miles is easily worth $2500 in terms of the total cost over the remaining life of the bike. For me, that's a bit over two years of riding added to the bike.

Okay, I just got back from the dealer with the 2010. Nice bike, of course. He will not budge on the price and out the door I am looking at close to $8500. We are now at $3000 more than the 2008. The seller of the 2008 is a nice older retired gentleman. He just doesn't seem to be a clean bike kind of guy. Or car and truck for that matter

He said the valves were just checked and adjusted if needed by his mechanic. The mechanic was working at a dealership at the time. This was 2000 miles ago. Looks like it will be the 2008 for me for now. I'm sure I will be a happy camper. Hell, the newest of my two other bikes is 30 years.

Good decision. Don't look back, and enjoy the ride. And, kidding aside, you did get the BEST COLOR.

If you plan on lots of long range touring then I think the cruise is EASILY worth $800. I would say that along with a comfortable seat it's the bet thing you can add to a Gen 1/2. Now I went cheaper and installed the AVCC, but the MCCruise is much cleaner and professional looking. Probably holds speed better too though not sure about that.

It comes down to being able to afford the difference in price. The 2008 sounds like a great bike and you should get many happy miles out of it. Bank the difference and save for the newer model a few years down the road. This is what I am doing. Got the 2005 when the 2014 is what I lust after. Just have to wait a few years but still enjoy having a fabulous motorcycle in the 05.

Because of the mileage, the 08 is worth about between $5,000 and $5,500 with or without the farkles. The 10 would be worth about the same if it had the same mileage. So you are really trying to decide if the frakles are worth the high miles. Truth is we always want low miles, but in you case it comes at a cost of farkles.

You are closer to bottoming out at $5,500 than $7,995. That means if you had to sell the bike quick or trade it in, you wouldn't loose as much on the 08 as the 10, even with the miles. That is why I think the 08 is the better deal, but I have been in your shoes and for some reason the low miles wins out for me. I don't know why.

So here is how I would do this, I would figure out how much it would take for me to say yes right now to for 10? And make that offer. If he turns you down, then take $5,000 cash in hand and offer it in person to the owner of the 08. Either way you will feel good about the deal.
