I searched and could not find a specific answer to my question. I found stuff about aftermarket heated grips, and installation of the OEM grips, but not on what I am experiencing.

The grips work, but I can definitely feel a temperature difference between them. The Yamaha dealer checked them out, and said they were "within tolerances". However, it still bothers me that they don't heat equally, either that, or I'm losing feeling in one hand! LOL!

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what was the fix?

You can expect the throttle grip to be a little warmer than the other, the throttle tube isolates the heat loss through the bars a little. I believe some heated grips make allowance for this, I don't know about the FJR's.

If that's all it is, there's probably nothing wrong, otherwise a little deeper digging is required.

The throttle side grip is a 'smooth bore' that fits in full contact on the plastic (insulating) throttle tube. The left side is a 'rifle bore' with internal ribs to minimize the contact with the heat sinking metal bar. Is it the left grip that seems cooler? After heating for >15 minutes does it seem that the heat balances out? The heat controller in the Gen II and up lowers power when the engine is at idle so this would go a long way toward making the grips seem like they have uneven heat.

The Gen I heated grips are both the same resistance so the wattage is the same. Dunno about the later Gens but I suspect that they are the same resistance too.

I can't remember which, but I BELIEVE that the left grip IS cooler. I don't recall them balancing out, if they do, I'm not feeling it. Don't get me wrong, they both warm up, but the right side is definitely warmer

Didn't know that, certainly not true for other grips I've seen, maybe because they weren't designed with heaters! In which case ignore my earlier post. (Most of mine are ignored anyway :( .)

Was going to start a new thread for Gen III's specifically but glad I searched & found this first. My question was going to be exactly what the OP's was, because apparently they have not changed anything on the Gen III's. Even after riding for 30 minutes or more, my throttle grip is almost twice as warm as my left grip, on any of the 3 settings. Bugs the **** out of me. Just had my bike in for my 4K service and asked them to check it & got the same response as TXFJR; that "the voltages are fine and that's just the way they are", was the dealer's reply.

So I agree with ION, that it's due to the throttle tube, causing the throttle grip to be warmer on that side. Hey, YAMAHA, how about an electrical adjustment to compensate.

Any other Gen III'ers noticing it. FWIW, I only need grips about 2 months out of the year, when I ride home from work at 2 a.m. in Jan and Feb, but it would be nice to have them equally effective when I do need them.
