My 2006 FJR is in bad need of a new rear shock, but I don't want to pay the extra cash for an aftermarket variety. I noticed that the 2013 shock assembly is a bit cheaper than the 2006 version. My understanding is that the spring on the 2013 is also a bit stiffer which would be a good thing and the cheaper price is a plus. Does anybody know if the 2013 assembly will fit on a 2006?

I'm sure one of the '13 riders will chime in shortly. My guess is yes since the aftermarket shocks from GENIIs fit the '13.

Question though...why spend money on another Yamaha non-rebuildable shock? For $600 or so you can buy a budget HyperPro 460 Emulsion shock that will out perform the stocker AND be rebuilt for around $150. Last shock you'll ever buy.

Just my $.02

Good luck!

Edit -- There's also a new budget Penske 8900E that has just been released. A little more than the Hyperpro, closer to the stock replacement cost.

Good advice --G.

And if you do something to the back end you will need to update the front end.

Done right you will not regret updating your FJR's suspension. Since you are in Georgia a visit to Traxxion Dynamics would be just the ticket. Delaying this decisions simply delays the inevitable or living with a motorcycle with a very soft and sloppy suspension. Updating my FJR's suspension was costly but worth every darn penny.

^^^^^ What Fontanaman said. I've done two bikes with Traxxion Dynamics, most satisfying mods I've done to either one. Some of the best customer service I've experienced. Call Lee at T-D.
