Is it ok for the real wheel to spin in neutral? Up on the center stand, performing first oil change for my 2014, turned it on for a minute to help re-circulate the oil for an oil level check. Not to hard to stop the spin. Is this right? Don't remember this wheel spin on my GEN2.

Oil filter that I removed was part # 5GH-13440-50

One I replaced was from my earlier GEN2 bike with part number 5JW-13440-00 which is about a inch longer.

Is this shorter oil filter something I need to go with, or can I keep this longer one on?

It's common for the wheel to spin in neutral--my 08 does it whenever it's running and on the center stand.

As long as the oil filter seals up you're good--just makes a diff on how much oil you need (or don't) to top it off as longer filters take a little more. Some think the longer ones give you longer life as there is more filter material inside.

This is a factory designed feature, it should rotate 2.3459 revolutions per minute to illuminate the ABS warning light. Ahem,

Almost all motorcycles will spin the rear wheel when the engine oil is cold. Your Gen II almost certainly spun the wheel when cold too. If allowed to spin for a while the ABS light may indeed flash because the front wheel is fixed and the rear wheel is turning, the ABS light will behave normal when you drive away.

If the longer filter fits, use it, no problem.

Edit: I see that by 0.01 seconds Spud made my post redundant and perhaps down right superfluous.

I've been using the Gen1 oil filter on my 013 - 10k mi. - no problem. Got them for $5 ea.

Mine ALWAYS does that when it's cold. Sometimes it does it when I think it's still hot. Never seen an ABS light from it though.

Just wait until your bike is no longer new, and you put on a long yellow "Pure" PL14610 oil filter. For the fashion consious crowd, paint it black.
