Not just a 1st gen, but a 2003.

I too have had a couple of red heads:

I don't see what's so bad about red bikes...

Hey Fred,
Do you find yourself getting a lot attention from the cops?

It depends what you mean by attention. Never was pulled over on either of those "ticket-me red" bikes, but I have been pulled over before while riding my Bass Bote Blue FJR a bit too spiritedly. Something about him thinking I had passed a slow moving car on a double yellow. This was one day on my way home from Vermont where it is perfectly legal to pass on a double yellow, just as long as there are no "No Passing" signs. I know, that's weird, but oh so wonderful.

When he asked me if I knew why he pulled me over I said: "No, not really." Then when he accused me of the double yellow violation I asked, "Are you sure it was double yellow back there?" We both knew that he did not have me on radar (I know because my RD didn't make a peep) and he knew that I knew because the RD was sitting right up there in front of his face as we were "discussing" things. We didn't even discuss the speed even though I was clearly over the limit by more than 20.

When he ran my license I had no priors, so I was off the hook with only a verbal warning to "take it easy." Phew!!

[this was timely!]

U lucky ducky!

I have a few "extra" speeding tickets for you Fred since you are under the limit. Actually they say 1 more for me within 18 mos. and bye bye to my CDL. Kinda sucks cuz all my next year's bike trips have to be on the "up n up"

My last tix was not ghaydar detected either. He simply pulsed me as I went by. He "said" 83 in 55. He wrote me down to 70. Good cop, nice cop

..still have my CDL (for now!).

Didn't particularly like them on my 13. But they've grown on me, and, they don't show dirt like the silver does! +10

Is there anyone out there who thinks the black rims improve the looks of any FJR?
Slardy
Hell yes. I got a black 2008 that came with the silver rims. Loved the looks of the black 2009 with black rims so much - I powder coated my silver rims black.

Not a whole lot. If I ever get a '14, I'll either repaint them, have the edges polished or at least put the red stripe on them. I also wish they would improve their castings, the sand cast finish is one of the worst I've seen. Compare them with the rims on my 09 Bonneville and they're downright homely. But, still love the bike.

I liked the (gloss) black rims on my '03, and like that the wheels are black on the '14, just that they have the matte finish, would prefer them to be like the '03 personally.

Do you have your new bike yet?

+1. It's the reason I got an '09.

I'm so proud of myself. Went and saw an ES in the dealer today. Sure was pretty. But at the end of the day..my 09 is just abt paid off...and the sticker on that 14 was well over $18 large. I think ill wait a few years.

Over $18 large? Must have quite the fees added and selling for list price?
