I'm pretty sure that each market sets their own pricing in Yamaha, so whatever is happening in Germany price-wise may or may not be consistent with the changes that will happen here in the USA.

Did you ask about the price or maybe get a feel if there was going big price increase or not?
Yeah, I did. Sort of. If I listened correctly it's not that they've come up with a set price but rather a percentage increase over whatever the '15's NA MSRP is currently. He didn't offer what that percentage point is and I didn't ask but I believe it isn't anything too significant.

I did not realize that one could purchase a "bag-less" FJR in other countries. Neat.

As for the '16 MSRP, the currency exchange won't play much into it either.

I agree, with the US dollar staying strong we can hope for smaller increase than our friends in Europe.

Get it Joe!!!
That is the plan Mark...yesterday I chased Denny around SEO, and had a blast putting 432 miles on for the day...my 06 really isn't lacking fun factor...but it sure would be nice, to start with a 0 mile bike, again. And since the 16 is the same color as my beloved 06...why not?

FJR 2016

As returning member I read the whole thread about the 2016, yes I think I'm still sane, but I went out for a ride to have a zen moment for a third of a tank.

The FJR is a well harmonized engineering marvel. Yamaha may be targeting the audience who discount the machine because of 5 gears. I would find a higher gear useful when you have reduced high speed power demand, like a tail wind or a long gentle down grade. Going the other way, dropping to fifth may be optimum. I had this going through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona earlier this year, down wind at 80 reading 52 mpg, going 355 miles on 5.5 gallons! A sixth would have been nice.

The Press do have a role in setting the level of "this is the bike to get" but that only gets the buyer interested. It is very difficult to test ride the machines you are considering. You can, but you really have to be motivated and travel a long way, even then it may not be meaningful. Renting an FJR can only be accomplished in some locations. I purchased my 07 without riding it, but I just knew I was going to like everything about it, that was 4 years and 57K miles ago. Smoother shifting, lighter clutch pull, spectacular brakes and the electric throttle are the visceral elements that a test rider would experience and form an opinion around. The 07 shifting requires finesse that when done properly is poetry, down shifting is truly an art form. Anything that brings in more riders to the FJR fold helps the longlivety and continuing innovation of the type.

To summarize the thread so far, you all want one! I would like one, that new bike smell, but not the sounds of my piggy bank imploding with farkles. I have a ride that is awesome, new tires and lots of places to visit, so for the next couple of hundred thousand miles or so I'll see you around.

As a FNG, be reasonably cordial.

Maybe the '16 - 6 speed will eliminate one fuel stop on these adventures! :bike: --G
I doubt the fuel mileage at highway speeds will be improved at all. The difference in engine pumping losses between an engine running at 4500 rpm and one running a few hundred rpm lower is insignificant.
Posted with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Fred...I'm in complete agreement, the extra gear won't do a thing for FJR fuel mileage. Pure marketing at work...

Well, if the updated gearbox shifts more smoothly than the five speed then it is worth having the change with or without the extra gear.

I find no issue with the shifting on my outdated 2014 5-speed equipped FJR, shifts smoooooth!

I like it alot. But with the transmission recall issues on the R1, I hope the new FJR doesn`t get this tranny.

Ooops, sorry. I did not pick up on that.

The reason I thought that you were serous is because there are many people who believe that the answer to increased fuel mileage is always higher gearing. While higher gearing can improve mileage in some circumstances, it doesn't always.

MSRP = B.S.
They get what they can get.
MSRP is a starting point. If this bike is particularly well received (and therefore in high demand) dealers will be sitting on MSRP. If (for example) the new gearbox has a problem and has to be recalled due to some engineering oversight, they may be sitting in dealership showrooms and sell for less than the prior model year bikes in the end.

(This will make my '13 worth less)

Important use of the space, there, because your '13 is definitely not worthless. But, even if all they had done was change the paint color, releasing a new model year bike always makes all of our bikes worth less. Unfortunately, they just do not appreciate in value. ;)

Most likely, your bike is actually worth less today in December, than it will be in March when the 2016 is released. The new model will initially sell at MSRP as all new bikes do, until the initial demand is met and the excitement wanes by mid-year. At that point (like every year), discounts will appear, and will get steeper as we get closer to a new model year introduction. About that time, a 2014 ES is going to look like a bargain to me. That's how I roll.

Well that good news. I hope my bank account will feel the same way. I need to crunch some numbers.

I finally took the time to read this BS from beginning to end. Wow.

1. It is beautiful. My sincere congratulations to those of you in line to purchase one.

2. 5 speed vs. 6 speed. The number of gears is not going to be the determining factor in my purchase decision. If I have to shift one more time to reach top gear, how have I helped myself? Of course I have not hurt myself either. I am sure the 6 speed will be nice and will work just fine. The gain or loss of one gear will not affect me. Saying, " I would not buy one because it only has 5 gears", is the equivalent of a child whining about wanting to drink out of the pink sippie cup instead of the blue one. Just Stupid. None of us know yet what effect the 6th gear will actually have on RPM or fuel mileage. Lower RPMs do not always equal better fuel mileage.

3. Gen3 vs. Gen4??? Really? Is it that important. I always believed that the "Gen1/Gen2/Gen3" designation originated HERE, on this forum. It certainly does not come from Yamaha. This is completely insignificant to me.

4. Tranny. Can we stop using this word? When I hear tranny I think of SKooterG and those freaks that lurk on the far end of Bourbon Street. It is a transmission. It ain't that hard to type it out.

5. Again, I congratulate all of you who are in line to buy one. I look forward to your reports, your happiness, and your continued forum participation. I hope to see some of you on the road.
