I get the impression dealers who sell lots of FJRs, get lots of FJRs allocated to them, and probably early allocation too. Renaa said they sold over 100 FJRs last year. Last year my local dealer got an A and an ES. They still have the A. This is probably why they want to hang on to there ES and see what the market will bring.
That is exactly how it works.

They only have a few bikes in the first run. If you are a dealer that promotes and sells FJR's, your allocation is larger than a dealer that has last years in back with dust on it.

Yamaha also know that if you do a limited amount in the first run, the dealers can hold their prices and make some money on the FJR's.

My normal dealer here in Houston that is the largest multi-line dealer in town cannot get one for me—they say that Yamaha only allocated them one A model and they don’t want it because they still have an unsold ’15 A model on the floor. Is Yamaha actually selectively allocating these bikes to dealers?
I am no expert in this matter, but probably smarter than most. And the info that dealer gave you is BS. They are either idiots, or not telling the truth.
I do recall being on the phone with my Yamaha salesman trying to order my 2015 ES the day Skooter first posted the pics and the salesman telling me that they still had no idea what color it would be. I also directed that salesman to this forum and last year's version of this thread. Later, there were folks on this forum with deposits paid and bikes ordered, while my salesman assured me that they were not allowed to place an order for a '15 yet. I vividly remember him calling me asking for a CC #, his dealership was finally allowed to place orders. There were already a couple folks on this forum RIDING their 2015s.

I have no idea why or how Yamaha does these things but I do know that MY salesman was neither an ***** nor a liar. He was a friend, a trusted friend. Yamaha does not do the same thing with all of their dealers. That salesman did everything he could to get me that bike as fast as possible. And he is a member of this forum now although he no longer sells Yamahas.

 
Saying 'Yamaha' paints a wide brush. Could be the corporate policy/procedure, could be the regional procedures, and could also be the 'Yamaha Dealer Rep', or more accurately the DM - District Manager. Lots going on behind the scenes. Oh, and then it could be Yamaha Japan......

Then there is the dealership: The breakdown or misinformation could be the salesman, the manager, or even the owner.

While allocation and previous sales definitely plays a part, it is not that black and white. There are other factors. Yamaha would love to sell twice as many FJRs as they currently do. And they wouldn't really care what dealership was selling them in the grand scheme of things. However, when trying to sell what they do make, they are definitely going to go to/reward/lean on the proven performers. That only makes good business sense.

Still, I know the past several years there have been brand new FJRs in the warehouse at the end of the year waiting for a dealer to request them. More often than not they are auctioned to a dealer at a steep discount as the new model year is coming out. That is why you see some really cheap prices at the end of the year on ebay from a few dealers.

Actually it has nothing to do with trying to keep the prices high. More like production schedules, shipping from Japan to the U.S., and then distributing them to the dealers.

You and I got our 2015s about the same time -- within a few days of each other, as I recall.

I had a similar experience: called a sales guy at the nearby location of a mega-dealer (Mountain Motor Sports has 6 dealerships in metro Atlanta), went to see him 3 times, offered to put down a deposit, made sure he had two phone numbers and two email addresses for me, called him every 2 or 3 days, .... and nothing. For weeks, nothing.

Finally, I called my previous salesman -- who had been promoted to the Sales Manager at a different MMS location. It was like night and day. "I can order one for you today and it will be here on Monday. You're a good customer; here's our price." The price was within my expectations, I gave him a credit card number, and I had my beautiful Liquid Graphite rocketship the following week. Bada Bing, , just like that. This weekend, she'll turn over 23,000 miles.

Just an example of what SkooterG was alluding to about painting "Yamaha" with a big brush.

So, CONGRATULATIONS to all who are looking to score the newest version. I hope you can stand the anticipation, and I hope you last a lot longer than I did before you drop yours!

Still, it just seems that a mega-dealer in a major metropolitan area like Houston would get an allocation of at least one ES model. This makes no sense and I don't believe that my dealer is lying to me (they even tried to get one from another dealer with no success--they would not be doing that if they actually could get me one themselves). It just sounds like selective allocating by Yamaha which is unfair to a loyal Yamaha purchaser like myself that will be buying his 3rd FJR. I just wish I could complain to someone that could do something about it--maybe I should try calling the Customer Relations department at Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA in Cypress, CA and express my concern and see if they can help me?

As mentioned back in post 952, a dealer local to me was told by Yamaha that there were some '15 FJRs left over after dealer allocations so the dealer made some kind of a deal with Yamaha and procured a '15ES at the end of last year. The dealer priced it like they wanted to sell it ASAP as a bonus sales. I have known the sales person for 12 years and have every reason to think she was honest with me.

I pushed this as hard as I could and they assure me that they begged their Yamaha rep for a bike for me but to no avail--go figure. However, it makes no difference now because I made a deal today with a dealer in the Austin area for $16,167 and no dealer add ons for freight or prep, just TT&L (that's pretty close to what D&H is offering at $15,999 and I don't have to go to Alabama or pay to ship the bike to Houston). They have had the bike on order since the first day they could and expect it in at any time. They are also giving me a fair price for my '13 in trade so I will be riding the '13 the 190 miles to their dealership and picking up the '16 at the same time. I'm just relieved that I could finally put this to bed--what a struggle.

No offense, but I think the only one that made this a struggle was you.

Regardless, glad there is a happy ending. When you're new FJR arrives and you start riding it you'll barely even remember this.

For a difference of $168 and a fair trade on your '13, I'd say you did pretty well!

So which Austin dealer is this. I am already tempted enough by the 2016. Now that they will have a trade on a 2013 which would be my second choice for the past few years - of course I would have to drop a new ECU in it right away - we actually have roads in Texas that exceed the 80 mph limit. I am going out to give my wonderful 06 a hug - that is the fully farkled and paid for in cash 06. #2kidsincollege, #mysmuggler wont match the 13 anyway

Adam, When you get the new bike many of us are very curious to know how the 6th gear is mated with the tachometer. Please give us the RPM's at 60MPH for example. I am anxious to know if 6th gear is actually taller than the prior Genlll 5th gear Thanks and enjoy the new ride!!

My bike won't be here for a few weeks. I'm sure someone else here will have that data before I do. If not, I'll be glad to report my results.

I would be astounded if the revs were the same for last years 5th vs. the new 6th gear. Wouldn't make much sense to add a gear unless it made it easier to highway cruise, unless they did it for a purely marketing perspective. Anyway, that will be an interesting comparison.
