Last Sunday while on a search for good rural roads to ride, ended up in a small town(no open stores, traffic lights, etc) with a posted 25mph 90 degree corner. So...poking along at 25-30mph I went through the corner. Front wheel pushed and before I knew it...I was on the ground. Damn gravel! Fortunately I had sliders on the bike so damage was not to bad.

Any ideas on how I could repair the pipe scrapes? Additionally I also have a spare can that has a dent that is approx 2 inches wide by an inch tall and 1/4" deep in the center. Any way to repair or cover?

Thanx,

mark

I'll have have spare cans as soon as I can come up with money for some Remus Hexacones :) Keep an eye on the "for sale" section; stock cans seem to show up fairly often.

Yep...thats good advice and will probably have to go that route. I have a set of aftermarket cans on the way but was Just wanting to see if I can actually figure a way to repair. More of a challenge than anything else. I made my own luggage rack and a pair of slider foot rests due to the same disease. FYI...I fixed the bags with bondo and semi gloss black rock chip paint. Turned out good and only cost $18. Hoping to be able to do something similar with the pipes.

Certainly someone will come along with some repair suggestions. Maybe high temp bondo and paint???

Sorry, to hear about your drop but I kind of like the scrapes on the cans. I would keep the battle scars. It adds character and gives it a custom appearance. If I had to repair it I would try the buffing but if other ones are on the way why bother?

I would like to hear more about your disease that created slider foot pegs. I've been having similar symptoms but nothing has come to fruition. Perhaps you could share in another post.

I call them stealth slider footrests. I will have to repair, actually make another one, due to my recent losing battle with gravity. At that time I will do a post with some pics. Basically I made a sleeve that goes over the slider and covered it with non slip tape. When wanted, It will extend out from the slider an additional 2.75 inches. With the slider and the additional sleeve, it allows enough space to use as a footrest. Works well and almost noone notices them until I point them out. You can notice the sleeve in the post in the FJR specific forum. Additionally, the sleeve did not hamper the effectiveness of the slider when it was called upon for service.

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as high heat bondo? If so, I think I could restore the cans shape and then paint satin or flat black. That would made it look like an aftermarket can.

Thanx

I have the exact same scratches on mine. I left it alone. They are on the bottom almost and if you see them again it means you have other problems going on!! Enjoy the ride until you see some here for sale. :D

Go out and find some gravel in a left-turn corner and drop it again. That way both sides will match.

It's all about symmetry, you see...

:tomato:

Are these just scratches or is the seam pulled apart? The other guys have good ideas on the scratches. If the seam is damaged in any way I will TIG weld it back for you for FREE.... Just let me know.. I weld SS all the time.... :)

They are just scratches and slight indentions. The only negative effect is appearance. Thanx for the tig weld offer. I have heard people say "No one will help them" Obviously that is true! Thanx again,

Mark

Funny no one has even metioned the scraps on the bag.

That's why black on black works better than blue on black.

Blue on black you can see the damn scraps.

Funny you missed that.

By the way glory racing, post some pics of the bag repair. I'd be interested in seeing how that turned out. Sounds like a repair that might work for most years.

The repair would work on any color bag since the rock chip color is the same as the unpainted black plastic on the rest of the bag. In my application, it is hardly noticable since the repair is on the bottom of the bag. Actually, it looks like it came from the factory stock as road protection. Actually not a bad idea. I do not own a digital camera or would have already posted for ya. I will borrow one shortly and post pics of repaired bags and slider footrests. Sorry for the delay.

Well, your not the only one to mess up pipes and bags. Mine are on the left side. Can't see it on the muffler unless you lay down to look at it, so I'm not going to worry about. The bag is another story and I've already found out it will cost $150+ to repair and repaint. Mine is the '06 blue.

We need to keep the shiney side up.
