I get back home after NAFO and bummed I didn't get to participate in the Fairlainer display of exitement and bravado with karts.

Fortunately, my childhood friend called me up and invited me to try his new $7,000 kart out at our local ORV park. For $25 I drove 3 times in this 125 cc cart with 28hp and enough to scare the bejeezuz out of me as I flung into the first corner at 60+.

After three rounds of 10 or 12 laps I was wiped out, but a grin on my face.

The sad fact is that I was out on the track with a local front-runner with the same cart. He was a string bean to be sure, but when he's pulling off 40 second laps and I barely cracked into the 48 territory.....I'm definitely past the prime of this particular sport.

If I had the money and time Kart racing would have been my thing. :yahoo: I have driven many different karts when I was young and thought I was pretty good at it. That is until a few years ago when my then 13yr. old son Got the chance to race me on a track down in florida. He had no problem making me look like a begginer. Of course I still hear about how he beat the old man.

A friend of mine is a dealer for one or two brands of those, he travels to events as the support trailer. He used to run in the Briggs & Stratton karts, where they have classes that build over 20 HP out of the 5-horse mower engines. He bought a 125 shifter, and decided enough was enough. He was light (small) enough to compete, but not brave enough apparently.

I've never driven the 125 shifters, but I have driven a high-horsepower B&S, and it's amazing! Certainly not the driveway kart you had as a kid, and absolutely nothing like the "race tracks" on the beach!

You know they have 250 karts, don't you????

I feel yur pain....

I can't count the number a times I wished I was about 5'2" 115 lbs....

Man... I could go so fast.....

Dream on....

Wow Matt that looks like a nice kart, the one i took out had sen better days as evident in these pics.

awesome matt! I knew you were bummed about missing the NasKart races, but this way beats it! You paid a heck of a lot less than Fairlaner did and you got quite few more laps! All the guys said the same thing, that racing was quite a work out!
