Best (smartphone) GPS app out there!

It stores the map tiles local, no need for any Cell service (works in airplane mode, and, on airplanes as well ...if your in a window seat exposed to the S or W (or slightly E if your on the left coast). Basically a view to the birds as they sit geosynchronous above the equator. Pretty cool to sit in your seat and watch and know what's below ya!

I use it on my iPad as well

Joe, how large is that app when you load it on the phone?

I use the Zumo 590, but phone memory in the iPhone is way limited since iOS bloat kicked in with iOS 8.

You can tell app size by looking at it in the App Store without buying it. It's near the bottom of the "Details" section....as with any app you might consider. But the app size itself is going to be small compared to maps it downloads.

Tom, I have not yet purchased the app (I do have the FREE version). I know that KJ has raved about it in the past. I received an email from CoPilot, and just was passing on the 30% off deal.

Not Joe, but the map tiles of North America is 1.3GB. It includes US and Canada, gets updated (free) about 2-3 times a/year.

This was perfect timing for me. My GPS was needed by someone else so they helped themselves to it along with an ipod and other items in the car. My phone has worked for a while but I wanted the freedom of a separate GPS. I bought a Galaxy tab 3 Lite from Best buy - on sale right now for $99. Bought the co-pilot premium $6.99. Now my tired old eyes can see it easier and my phone conversations are not interrupted by constant direction commands. App size was about 30mb. Maps USA and Canada were about 2.3 gig. I also downloaded a high quality voice - the stock voice is just a notch or two better than the national weather service voice.

The GPS satellites are NOT in geosynchronous orbit, other than the 2 WAAS correction relay birds.

I sit corrected. The lower GPS birds @12,660mi high vs. 22,300 (our normal Comm birds) in the Clarke belt.

I would call this information overload.......I just wish I could get the program to load up on my Samsung S5!

downloaded it and used it tonight. Pretty nice. Put the phone in airplane mode, no problems.

but.... need custom routes...

I do custom routes with CoPilot. I also do them with CoPilot on a 10" Android tablet and Bluetooth them to my phone.

I use to make my routes in Googlemaps or mapquest etc. Then I used an (online) GPS file converter to make the native route into a .trp file. Imported it into the map directory. GUI recall is the 2nd tab [Route] in the Main menu.

It's quite easy after you find the directory on your phone or device. You can also use pre-made (shared .gpx for example) with this same conversion to .trp files. I found some very consistent conversions to this .trp format with any garmin type files.
