The other day I went on my first long ride (with two other biks, VFR and K1200s).

We started off jous North of Mt. Shasta Hw 3 headed south. This Hw. is in the hills and has a lot swichbacks.

As we started out I though back to the Class track days, late last year ,and wonderd if they wre worth the money.

Well it did not take me long to find out. The VFR lead they way {10 yrs 750 racer.never 1st but never last eather}

As were were travling at a good rate I went back to some of the thing from the class, stay your own ride,

stay lose, look through the trun. Came up to ,marked 20mph righthand swichback,a little fast started to look for

a way out and started to brake hard as I remembered look throu the trun not at it. Keep my speed up stayed smooth

no problem. The 06FJR was smooth and keep up a good pace. At about 250 miles I noticed that the K1200 rider

was all over his bike trying to stay comfy. The VFR was moveing, not as much. When we stoped

for gas they were wornout. I was ready to go agin. K1200s fast but not for long. VFR fister longer than k1200

FJR fast Fun. Next day Iam ready to go they wanted a rest.

I should say we are all over 50. Igot my first bike at 17 honda CB175, next Yamaha 250, RD350

Suz.850, Honda Saber 85, Now Fjr

Sounds like fun!!! I haven't had the pleasure of taking mine out for any kind of spirited ride with a group for any distance yet, but hope to here in the next few weeks. That is if work willlet me get away!!! I'm still trying to get used to the differenc of the FJR from an SV1000S, but a few classes might be in line for me!

I diced it for 4 days with a VFR in the smokies, along with 5 or 6 HD's and a couple of VTX's. It's all about the rider. We both rode from 9am-8pm-all mountain riding and spirited. There was no resting for either of us. HD and VTX rode 1/2 the miles and complained of fatigue. AND...I was suffering from neck and back pain at the time (didn't hurt to ride, but did getting on/off the bike), on muscle relaxers, etc.

Truth be told, the HD's guys looked tough as nails, but were absolutely pansies when it came down to actually RIDING the bike for extended periods.

Not that I would say that to their face!

I like the forum name of a guy named John that lives not too far from me. Fast_Far is a great forum name for an FJR rider.

Glad to hear that your trip went well. Riding in your comfort zone and not someone else's is key to having a good trip.

I've ridden four bikes on extended trips in the last five years. Harley Roadking, Kawaski Vulcan 1500, Honda 1800 VTX and the FJR. The two most comfortable bikes were the FJR and the Vulcan. However, to be fair, both these bikes were mine and thusly set up with risers, touring pegs, etc. to fit my frame. The Harley and Honda were rentals.

The longest trip for me has been on the FJR. Coast to coast. My second day on this bike I did 700 miles. I needed a cold beer at the end of the day but otherwise I was fine. The worst bike for comfort was the Honda. It even had an aftermarket seat but I just couldn't get comfortable on it. The Roadking was pretty comfortable but the bars were too far away for me to be really comfortable with the bike. I did a 600 mile day on the 'King and still felt pretty good. My old Vulcan was the most comfortable, but I had all sorts of farkles on this bike to make life on the road easier.

Still, the FJR is the most fun bike I've owned.

I leaving on a 8 to 10 day ride to Ratone NMexico sunday. This will be my first long trip on the FJR.

Hope to make Saltlake {start point Mt. Shasta Ca.} the first day. Its about 12 Hrs. with a 1hr rest.

I looking for a place to stay that is safe for the bike. Not takeing much with me other than tire repair kit,

wather, and plastic maybe a change of shorts.
